Did you score lower with TPR's verbals(the online diagnostics)?

I know they have a reputation of being harder but would you recommend it to someone looking to raise their verbal from a 9 to a 11 or 12? I figured by doing these hard passages, I'd get comfortable with the reading and my 10s for the TPR would translate to a 11 or 12 on the real thing? Good idea?

Why are you getting the questions wrong? Before you try to change to harder materials, do you even know why you are not scoring in the range that you want?

I do a lot of post analysis, I make a range of mistakes but sometimes it just comes down to reading comprehension which results in falling for a lot of distractors. People say VR is the hardest section to improve, I've gone through all the EK101 material scoring mostly 10s with a few 11s and 9s, it doesn't seem that my score improves.

The TPR diagnostics seem to force me into attacking the passages and questions since it's more intense. I might go back to some easier ones later to see if I get an improvement.

Is it reading comprehension on passage or question stems or answer choices?

If it's passage, then reading difficult materials may work, but no guarantee. This is because if you are struggling on reading passages, it may be due to either 1) not understanding it well or 2) not seeing the author's point of view.

If you can't do 1), you will definitely not be able to do 2) either. Note that I don't use the term "main idea" here. Despite what others may say, hard passages are not based off from main idea. You have to understand all the passage and some details in it. Main idea in hard passage is actually simple. This is why you may read a difficult art passage, feel like you know what the author was talking about (e.g. main idea here), and end up doing poorly in the questions.

To fix 1), you need to read the passage carefully, a lot more carefully than before. This doesn't mean speed reading (this is a bull), but just increasing the level of reading comprehension by whatever it takes. If you do well on 1), you will eventually get 2) as well. 2) requires you to pay attention to selected words and learn how to distinguish the types of statements that the author provides.
