From my internationalist perspective, it is one of the very best U.S. med schools in that vein.

    I hope you're a resident of Hawaii...
Last I heard the likelihood of a non-res applicant gaining acceptance is slim-to-none.

They will accept handful of Internationals--Pacific-Asians, usually.

  6. Before entering many have taken biochem, pharm, path, gross, and even tropical med and medical micro. Tropical med and medical micro are pbl style taught courses in Hawaii. So, many first years come in very prepared for the curiculum. There are also students matriculating from a post-bach program. These matriculating students are also very prepared. The school is on a pass/fail system. It is complete pbl.

The surfing is marginally better than at most of the Midwestern schools...

  8. EXTREMELY high cost of living. Make sure you ask current students how generous the FAO is.

When I looked at them for residency, turns out that they pay less than many stateside programs but the cost of living there rivals most of the places like San Francisco and NYC. Residents were sharing 1 bedroom apartments. No thank you. [IMG]

  9. UH school of medicine has a new dean. The medical school will relocate to the downtown area of honolulu. This means new buildings and many changes to come. Oh and yes there is paradise paralysis!!

I think the winters in Hawaii are wicked, so take that into consideration.
