We'll see a spike in activity around match time and then no more. I've created this thread for everyone sticking around and maybe we can start a non-medical, non-residency match, kind of a thread, for everyone who wants to stick around. It's be cool if we could turn the dorky IM forum into s bit of a community like the Anesthesia, ER, and Surgery forums.

It's snowing out (again) and I'm trying to decide if killing myself us a better option than heading outside.

Its raining here, 40 degrees, I definitely feel you on hating life with how miserable the weather has been. Can't wait to get to a place where the winter isn't as miserable.

Then who will provide running commentary on the Stanford thread?

Right now, I'd trade my weather for your weather in a heartbeat :D

The really annoying thing is that I'm training for an upcoming marathon and I keep having to do it indoors. 15 miles on a treadmill is enough to make you go batty. Though occasionally there is some fine scenery, but usually passing an transient.

Even when it gets nice the trails aren't so awesome where I live. If I can I'm making a trip to Idaho in august/September for few day 50 miles trail run.

That is a good question. And I think your point clearly stands. Although, I would hope someone would pick up that banner and run with it innthe event of my untimely demise either by the hands of myself or a jealous boyfriend (don't hate me because your girl thinks I'm hot)

You have time to train for a marathon and post thousands of comments on SDN? Your program must not have aaaaaaaany trouble staying under the 80 hour rule!

Not to be an a******, but it's 68 degrees right now where I am with clear skies. :D

I usually work between 70 and 80. You make time for the stuff you think is important. Some people like to go out afterwork. I run. It's my therapy and my religion. My feeting hitting pavement, my church and therapist.

And you are a dick for bring up nice weather. I now hope you get ass cancer.

Edit: I'm honored you first post was directed to me. Welcome to SDN

See. This is why all of medical world thinks we are lame and a bunch of tools (some of you are though, you know who you are, dont make me name, names) Medicine is just full of peole who are "tons of fun".

Series people are series!!!1!one!!!eleven

I'd kill myself from embarassment, but I havent the resources to go out in style the way I've always planned - copious amounts of hookers and cocaine. It was my idea way before charlie sheen made it cool.

Anyway . . .

started a spanish course.......I do not know if am gonna match or not but most hospitals I got interviews at have a significant % of spanish speaking patients

At Egypt right now ....things are quiet right now after the war criminal hosny mubarak was ousted!

Are things safe there yet?

Thanks for the welcome and the cancer wishes. And crap, yeah, I guess I kind of wasted my first post on weather. I'm a long time reader. I guess this wasn't exactly riding in on a white horse, not the triumphant entrance I envisioned!

Although you prefer pavement and trails, I favor water. Swimming >>>>>>>>> running. Easy on the joints, and it works almost all your body. Just saying. . . .

Bah!!

We evolved to run!! Upright posture, nuchal ligament, Achilles tendon, feet with arches. There are many indigenous peoples that still run everywhere and they don't have joint problems and continue to run into their old age.

jdh, DUDE, why couldn't you just add these monologues to the Purgatory thread?

I wish there was something else occupying my life other than medicine. Developing an allergy against it.

You sir! Need a hobby sir!

I would suggest hookers and cocaine, but you might not be a bad enough dude to handle it.

In all seriousness though, if you can't find something you like outside of medicine you may end up going crazy. Burned out for sure.

Really? What tribes still runs everywhere? Just curious.

Also....I have noticed that temp/weather really does matter...even if you are in residency.
I am hoping to head somewhere warm.

I just broke up with an SO after 5 years! I am still seeing him in rotations, but what are you going to do? It is really uneasy and awkward to see him.....

I am ready for residency even though it sounds like hell.

I started frisbee golfing ... A perfecty lazy, cheap activity for a leisurely, brok'd 4th year :)

See...I knew there was something deeply wrong with you, and now I've finally realized what it is. You're a runner. There's nothing I despise more than runners.

I'm fairly certain I'm going to ignore your advice on, well...everything from here on out.

My penchant for cocaine and hookers is acceptable but NOT this running business!!!!

yes things are safe .......tourists started coming back.....everyone is happy though people are still poor but they are releived having some hope in the future after the theif has been ousted!

How much does a kidney go for these days? I could use a third. I'll give you 50 bucks for your left one.

Oh my friend, are you trying to insult me?

My kidney is at a starting asking price of $500,000.

I'm really only interesting in selling to people who are rich and can afford my organs.

Book recommendations. I need them. Fiction or non-fiction.

But please do not recommend anything already thought of as a "classic".

I also want no recommendations of anything remotely "harry potter" (that **** is rubbish), or anything by Steven King (he's a pretty good author, but I know that the Stand or the Dark Tower series are good) . . . in other words no low hanging fruit.

Now give them to me!

why are internal medicine people so lame?

do I have to hand out blow-jobs and/or life savers candies in order to get some activity in here?

I'll bust out some others later.

I thought with all the people that show up in here. This thread just might get more traction, but I guess it will not.

My mother died of anal cancer a few years back, after failing treatment with the nigro protocol and a clinical trial. I loved her, and still do. As a physician, I would have hoped you would speak more respectfully. Cancer jokes are never funny. I realize this is just a silly online forum, but especially since we’re the ones treating patients with terminal illnesses, I think we can still joke around without being offensive or tasteless to patients and their families. Some subjects are untouchable by humor in my opinion.

Of course it's not funny to you. Your mom died of ass cancer. But to the rest of us without that experience ass cancer is still pretty funny. Name one death I could wish in anyone in jest and not offend the sensibilities of someone? "Hey! My dad died of a heart attack. Heart attacks are not funny!!"

I surely meant you no specific offense. The fact that you have chosen to take offense is your business not mine. I'm not responsible for your feelings here.

Thank you for taking time to stop by my thread.

The rest of the medical world thinks the IM world is lame because...well...in general it kinda is. Seriously dude, did you expect anything less from fellow IMers? Of the physicians in all the various fields I've encountered as a med student, IM by far was populated by some of the most droning, boring and socially inept. I'm really not trying to knock IM and I'm actually hoping to match in IM and eventually cardiology, but hey no illusions here, let's call a spade a spade. Endless rounds, endless note-writing, and full of those who love to hear themselves talk. In my experience and especially when it comes to subspecialists, their egos and bravado but maybe not machismo (trying to think of some more -os) can easily surpass those in surgical fields. Don't even get me started on academic IM.

BTW jdh71, I was beginning to think you were going through a quarter-life crisis (I'm being generous with life expectancy here) what with the avatar change, change in location, and the renewed vigor with which you've been posting as of late (obviously reflecting a great deal of introspection). I didn't even notice your >14K posts until someone on this thread pointed it out. You're quite the prolific poster, you are.

-Woos (I know it's a ******ed one but if atsai can have a signoff I was thinking I could too).
