TMDSAS Optional Essay

Happy TMDSAS Opening Day!

I had a question that I've been back and forth on for a while in regards to the opt essay on the application. Twice in my degree, one of my parents was hospitalized for over a week (once for mom and once for dad). Both of them ended up in the ICU. I went home during these week's to be with my family, but managed to keep up with course work and not let grades slip. Would this be appropriate to talk about in the optional essay? Thanks in advance for any advice fellow SDNer's!

Hello all,

My pre-medical advisor told me that the TMDSAS Optional Essay is, in this very special case, actually optional. Not sure if I believe him, but I am going to try it out and see. Application has been submitted so follow this for updates on interviews/acceptances despite leaving it blank.

Edit: 2 IIs thus far. Doesn't seem to be an issue.
