to call or not to call admission office for iv?

hello friends i m confused abt, shud v call or nt call admission office of any university if u r nt getting iv call n they hv already started ....few people highly discourage it n other says u shud call or email after every 10-15 days to show interest....also if u r local...try to reach them...how far is it true...n how far is it successful?
Plz come up with ur gud/bad experience abt calling/emailing various universities....also does it influence admissions? any1 who already tried plz guide....

contacting them in any way for knowing logical info like application status, documents reached or not, fee reached or not is acceptable.
but to know if they are going to interview you or not is getting sort of irritable....
sure you can email/call them after a month knowing that interviews are going on , ask your application status, just dont be pushy to get an invite ...
it does not influence admissions coz its not the admission committee that is going to talk to you just the admin officer whose work is to keep the papers ready and do the work as directed, nothing decisive is in their hands.... but just dnt make them uncomfortable because it is they who do the ground work....play safe

all admission offices are a bit dff. try and gauge the situation in the first couple of callsand then decide.
