I couldn't find anything resembling the first quote, unless it's this: "Moreover, accounting for economic hardship would not level the admissions playing field for minority and non-minority medical school candidates. I believe the second quote in his sig comes from the following: "If medical schools were to rely only on MCAT scores and and individual's undergraduate GPA, the number of admitted underrepresented minorities would plummet. Underrepresented minorities would have been expected to constitute 3% of those accepted to enter medical school in 2001, instead ot the 11% that was actually observed" (p. 18). But the brief states numerous places that NO candidate, white or otherwise, is admitted solely on the basis of MCAT and GPA, so the implication that the other 8% were admitted solely because of race is ludicrous.

I am not defending AA, but Ernham's claimed use of "sources" infuriates me. Did anyone catch his absurd "study" of unfair grading in the math department? Without knowing an iota about the actual grade distribution in any class, he argued passionately that the math department discriminates against lower SES students (who are presumed by him to take the lower math courses) b/c he collected syllabi that contained the grading scale and found that the minimum grade for an A was lower in the advanced courses.

I agree. Ernham, the AAMC doesn't mention Kool-Aid anywhere. I am very anti AA, but that doesn't mean I don't like URMs as much as I like other whites! We can all argue and get on each others nerves on SDN, but I like to believe that at the end of the day, nobody thinks someone else hates them because of the color of their skin. After listening to you, I'm not so sure. There must be a KKK board out there you can post on and find more love.

i realized that ernham, and his cohort ryo-ohki, had nothing constructive to say when i saw their asinine signatures.

we've seen ernham's, and ryo-ohki's goes like this:

i think it's fair to say that comment is, without question, racist. no wonder these two goons only come out to post when an anti-AA thread comes up.

I have been very careful to stay out of the AA debates on this forumn because of Ernham. I don't want to be associated with the poor reasoning, sloppy statistics, and extremist stupidity.

you tout yourself on the data and statistics that you use to back up an argument, but certainly you must realize how sloppy this type of argument becomes? it is the same type of division between pseudo-science and science, creationits and evolutionary theory, and, now affirmative action vs. no race admissions policies. if you want to use data and statistics don't go out fishing up data and statistics that back your argument up! while strong-inference science isn't the worst way to argue, certainly trying to disprove your assumptions might help you employ the dataset a little more efficiently.

As a chemist and I used GC/MS and HPLC to test the integrity/amount of those ingredients.
