    Hey,
So I am in my second year of college as a pre- med student. I have a 4.0 GPA since the start ( psychology major, bio minor) So far I have 110 hrs of ER volunteer work, and 15 hrs of community volunteer work. I have a 2 year old and work part time. Also, I am 24 years old. With all that being said, I am EXHAUSTED!!! I am busy 7 days a week and never get a break. If I'm not in class, then I am studying to earn tat 4.0, I f I'm not busy with school I am working or spending time with my son ( which is all very exhausting). My main issue is what do I do? I am not giving up on the pre med path, nor is that even a thought in my mind. My main question is...should I stop volunteering for now? I know a lot of people volunteer in the summer, but for me that wont make a difference since I will still be working and taking 8 crds in the summer. I feel like I dont know what to do?? should I keep at it all? How much volunteering/ shadowing is good enough for med school. Keep in mind I am a mother and I work.

I'm so confused, I came here ready to tell you nothing beats going Greek. In any event sounds like you're on the right track.

Adcoms are going to see your stellar record and determination in spite (or likely because) you're a young mother. If I read your app, I'd want to interview you immediately. You also have almost 150 hours of volunteer work?! You're amazing. Nobody is going to fault you for having less. Just get some shadowing because it's helpful for interview chit-chat. Grades/MCAT matter most so make sure you keep those up. The other stuff is just icing on the cake given the rest of your accomplishments. Best of luck to you!

I'm not saying this is OP's situation, but I know someone who got pregnant before applying partly because she thought that it would help her during the admissions cycle.

I say don't burn yourself out, OP. Scale back your time commitment to ECs if you feel like you need a bit more downtime. Keeping your grades up and taking care you and your kid are the most important things.

Sorry if the tittle is confusing. I just feel like I am trying to rush to get everything done and, also, apply to med school on time ( next summer)

You sound really nice, you need to get off SDN before someone attacks you for making an innocuous comment.

    RUN!!!!!

My opinion is worth nothing. I know far, far less about life than you do, given your experiences, and could stand to learn a ton from someone like you. I don't see how anyone would not want to interview you. You will make a stellar physician one day. Best of luck to you!

Nice work so far! I would suggest slowing down if you feel like you're burning out. Otherwise, just keep doing what you're doing. You're definitely on the right track.

It's a marathon, not a sprint. Take your time and don't burn out - medical school is going to test you even more than what you have going on now should you continue your trajectory.
