As a likely Army HPSP student (the board meets this month), I have to say that I have appreciated the frank honesty of many of the posters in this forum. Your thoughts and experience have certainly caused me to think twice about my decision to join the Army, and after some serious reflection I think I can say that I am not just doing it for the money.

I've been in a military environment before (granted, a much different military environment at USAFA)...and I've dealth with governmental B.S. for the past 3 years at my job in the Department of Veterans Affairs. I've survived it and found that just like anything else, there are advantages and disadvantages. I have concluded that for some strange (or possible sick?) reason, I enjoy working for the government, and I really enjoy the military environment. I am excited about having some income during medical school (I am married) and making a little more as a resident. I grew up as a Navy brat so I'm very familiar with moving a bit and my father was deployed to Desert Storm, so I'm familiar with that as well. Guess what? I survived.

That said, thanks again for all the honesty here. Although I will sign my papers if I get the scholarship this month, I can honestly say that I agree with what has been said here. Don't do it just for the money!!!
