To take or not to take, that's the ?

I want to apply to med. school for the fall of 2006 or 2007. I could cram and get all the requirements for 06' but it my be a little tight. My question is whether I should just go ahead and take the MCAT this august and see how well I do, or wait until next april? (I have less going on this summer than next summer.)

Any advice would surely help out
