Today's Oprah Show...Puppy Mills!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
great link- thanks for sharing.

the segment raises a lot of interesting issues- the "legality" of puppy mills and what can be done, the lack of knowledge on the part of consumers (awareness), the culture of breeders and the (of course) the importance of spay/neuter. I only wish they'd have delved deeper into the idea of no kill shelters because i think that sometimes the phrase "no kill" is blindly touted as a standard of an ethical shelter. While they're great in theory, a truly no kill shelter is obviously not always practical and sometimes not necessarily as ideal as we hope. No kill shelters are an interesting debate that I don't think the segment devoted enough time to exploring- I almost wish they hadn't dropped that phrase (no kill) if they were only using the term in making a tangential point.

thoughts?

I also wish that people would understand that "no-kill" doesn't usually mean that no animal is ever euthanized.
