guys,

Does anyone know whether the EXACT toefl score above the minimum requirement for an applicant makes a difference to schools? i mean if a school's minumum toefl score is 100, does it make a difference if my score was 103 or 112 for example? does it increase my chances? or just getting more than the passing score regardless of the score itself is what matters?

I believe 103 is a good score for application ,no need to spend time and money again on that!:luck:

I believe anything above 100 is the ideal for any school. Even the ones that have a minimum requirement of less than 100.

apply to colorado... they do call candidates even if they dont have a score of 95.. but they will tell u to improve ur score to 95+, if they give u an acceptance and before u start the school. i would say go ahead and apply there, take the TOEFL exam and update ur application with d improved score. anyways u will have 2 do it later on also. so why not do it beforehand

@ rosalie
No offense but not sure if you got the info first hand or not. If you know somebody directly who got IV with < 95 then thats good. But the school website says in particular that the application will be denied.

7. TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TOEFL)
Original/notarized* results of having successfully received a minimum score of 580 on paper based version, 237 on the computer-based version or 95 on the internet-based version of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); a score below the minimum will result in a denial of the application. The TOEFL requirement will not be waived under any circumstances. Please note that the TOEFL score is valid for up to three years from the date the exam was taken.

@ maiya,

I'm in the same situation as you I have 93 and would love to apply but I'm planning to improve my score and then apply. I don't want my application to be denied. But it is your call.

All the best.

Maiya,
I would improve your TOEFL score since its easier than part 1 and part 2. Do speak English often and write as much you can. Try not to use broken English. I've noticed in Indian community, most folks do use broken English and its become habit after while. Take your time and read/write carefully. Goto local library where you can find plenty of material for TOEFL and search online as well.

Good luck to you.

Dear Maiya, don't give up. Take a deep breath and study some more. I think the best way to ace TOEFL is to take tutorial exams over and over again.. You will get used to the type of questions they make. Practice speaking with a native. He/She will be able to point out your weaknesses.
It never hurts to try and apply. If you have time to improve your score, do it. If not, try and apply anyways, but keep studying just in case you get rejected.
As everyone says they look at the whole package. since your NDBE is average it is better for you to have stronger points in your resume ok?
I know it is a pain to do it again.. I don't even know if I would have the strength to do it again!!! But that is definitely the best advice.

one of friends got a call from boston last year. she had a score of 95. Bu requires the minimum score of 100. they asked her to improve her score before starting the school. so i thought maybe colorado will do the same! but its always better to improve the score

Toefl scores make a big difference and most people underestimate them.. If you can get a better score go for it... If you find it difficult don't lose hope, just apply. Its you as a whole that counts not the numbers..
