Hello Guys

Is anybody planning to do the TOEFL in the near future ??

If you do, please let me know How long does it take for you to get results back ? How important is it to get a good score ? The pass mark for ECFMG is apparently 550. But if really look into the score then I need to prepare for this as well.

I am going to apply for TOEFL now because I heard this score is a must before CSA.

Any comments .. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

If English is your first language, there really is no excuse not to score perfect or near perfect. I believe it took about 6 weeks.

Pill Counter,
English is not my first language. Probably the third language..

However, I consider it as quite good.

SO, do you believe that I need no prep before hand. It's only because I am in a hurry to do this with my USMLE I only 2 months away and I need to get a date for CSA

Thanks

All you need is a score of over 550 on the paper-and-pencil, and 213 (I think) on the CBT. The CBT results are reported after 2 weeks if yout type your essay, and 5-6 weeks if you write it by hand.

Could anybody who did TOEFL this year tell me which type was better - I mean Computer baed/ Written PLEASE ??

I am trying to get a date in Australia, and looks like its going to take 2 months before I receive this package with whatever that is in there, well I guess all what I can do is just be patient..

Stormreaver,
Thanks for your comment, though my typing speed is something like 20-25/ mins with too many mistakes to count I think I will stick to Computer based one, because I need the sore ASAP for the CSA.

This TOEFL website is being uncomplete for 2002-2003, but it looks like it will take 8 wks to get the info pack from US. Do you have any comments..

The CBT is much better because you can get the date of your choice, instead of waiting for an official exam date as in paper-and-pencil, and the results are reported much faster, especially if you type your essay. Computer proficiency is not really an issue, since most of the test is mouse-based, and you only have to type in the 30 mins you require for your essay. Furthermore, you get a tentative score range immediately after the test.

You don't need the TOEFL pack to apply. If you know the phone # of your Prometric RRC (where you phoned to schedule the USMLE) you can call them and schedule by phone if you have a credit card. The advantage here is you get an instant date. You can also print the application form off the website and fax or mail it, but the scheduling is much more delayed.

oh yeah, and if your typing speed isn't all that good.. you could just write.. i mean, just for that part of the test.. and if you get a lot of typos umm. i really think you should write that part, cause they do take scores off your spelling mistakes as well.. (i think.. i'm 95% sure )
cause, even if you write the essay rather than typing it.. the scores are back a lot faster compared to the PBT and like stormreaver said, the CBT's.. you can take them any time~

yeah, basically go for the CBT..
