i think it abducen, coz trochlear has shortest course of the cranial nerve,if iam wrong pls correct me

i think its trochlear...my own logic... both nerves terminate in orbit...but trochlear has to travel more as it originates from dorsal aspect...wt say?

i don't know for sure but i found this on net...from Yale Medical School site
Trochlear nerve
Unique Features
The trochlear nerve has several features that make it unique from the other cranial nerves:
#Is the only nerve to exit from the dorsal surface of the brain.
#Is the only nerve in which all the lower motor neuron fibers decussate.
#Has the longest intracranial course.
#Has the smallest number of axons.
you can see at"http://info.med.yale.edu/caim/cnerves/cn4/cn4_7.html"

Just reconfirmed it from some other site.Says the same.
"CN IV is the only cranial nerve to emerge dorsally from the brain stem, and it
has the longest intracranial course of all the cranial nerves."

The Trochlear Nerve (CN IV)
* This is the smallest cranial nerve. It supplies only one eye muscle, the superior oblique.

* The fibres of the right and left trochlear nerves decussate dorsal to the cerebral aqueduct before emerging from the midbrain.
* CN IV is the only cranial nerve to emerge dorsally from the brain stem, and it has the longest intracranial course of all the cranial nerves.
* CN IV emerges at the medial border of the superior cerebellar peduncle.
* It leaves the cranium through the superior orbital fissure, superior to the common tendinous ring.
* CN IV runs medially, superior to the levator palpebrae superioris muscle, and supplies the superior oblique muscle from its superior aspect.
THIS IS FROM "http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/crnialnn.htm"IF YOU WANNA CHECK OUT.hOPE IT IS SOLVED NOW. 🙂

hi !
thanx for the info on trochlear ,and guess what, i found out-
that tony bees muscle is tensor tymphani and tony bees manoevure is ---- swallow while holding ones nose to open eustatian tube.

one more to discuss------
what is peudoganglion and where can u find valentins pseudoganglion.

i would like to add one more point on trochlear and abducent

During head injury ----------the most common nerve to be damaged is trochlear but in in cerebral oedema the nerve involved is abducent ,it is most common to get "compressed "as it has a sharp bent over the petrous temporal and .lateral rectus palsy can occur .

also note ---------Nerve with the longest course in SubArachnoid Space is Abducens
