Well, I have been out of town most of winter break, so I haven't been able to write a letter of interest that I was planning on writing. Is it too late to do so? If not, should I address the letter to the Dean as well as the entire committee. Any help is greatly appreciated.

drumming🙂

Pre-interview or post-interview? I'm not sure if anyone's had any success from a pre-interview letter of interest - though there is a thread on Wake Forest noting that one should give them a call and inquire as to your status, as it tends to result in them bumping you up for an interview.

Post-interview letters should always be sent....

If you haven't been rejected, than it is probably not too late. Even if it is, you will never know, so I would go ahead and send the letter.

I addressed the two that I wrote to the Director of Admissions.

I have already interviewed-- thanks for the advice. Sounds like I will be writing tonight!

Definitely write one if you have already interviewed. If you haven't received a rejection letter, than they are probably still considering you as an applicant.

The letters I wrote were preinterview letters. We'll see if they work.

I was wondering if schools compare notes if your write letters of interest to more than one. I am writing a letter of interest to UCSF but a letter of intent (my 1st choice school) to UCLA. You guys think this is a good idea. Thanks for feed back. (oh both are post interview)

i think what you're doing is fine... just don't write 2 letters of intent.

Thanks lola for feedback. How is SF...bad weather I hear?? Did you go to Cal? Good luck 2 u.

thanks cbpremed. sf is great! the weather is actually pretty good here. i mean sure, we get our share of fog (particularly in the summer where ucsf is located), but the weather is much better than most of the rest of the country. la has better weather, but in my opinion sf is a much better environment. it has so much to offer considering it's a relatively small city -- great restaurants, opera, ballet, symphony, nearby hiking, the ocean, high unemployment 😉, etc...
i did not go to cal and have only been in sf for a couple of years.

I would love to live in SF, but wonder why high unemployment is good. I would prefer the low variety

err... it was a joke.
but there are a couple of benefits i guess: less traffic, less crowded restaurants

Does anyone have an idea of whether post-interview letters of interest are expected @ the UC's? It's seems a bit awkward to write one while still waiting to hear from one or other UCs (& considering how long the UC's take to give us news).

did anyone send an up-to-date transcript to accompany a letter of interest-- or is that just plain tacky? i don't think it would be that professional-- any thoughts?🙂

I sent a letter of interest and transcript to a school. I haven't heard back so I don't know if it worked. My letter talked about my activities of the semester and what I expect to do in the spring semester, then discussed why I liked the school. I didn't think sending a transcript was tacky. I felt like as long as you did well, it could only help you, but not hurt you. I think if you send anything, transcript or not, it will get the committee to at least get your file out again and it shows that you aren't being passive in this process. good luck!🙂

thanks... i hope it works for you. the transcript sounds like a good move.🙂

Hi Drumming:

I would definitely go ahead and send a letter of interest. As for additional information such as updated transcripts, updated resume, additional recs..... you should check with the school first to see if it's okay to send those things. I know there are some schools like suny? ....It was one of the schools in new york that specifically said do not send them any additional information unless they ask you too...but hey the worst that they could do is to trash the updated information.

Good Luck 🙂
