Too old to become a physician or surgeon ?

I really believed that these TV medical drama's reflect the work of physician.

What an idiot.

Going on a bit of a tangent, I have similar--YET VERY DIFFERENT-- concerns about age and surgical residency/fellowship: Mostly, concerns of income through residency/fellowship.

Hypothetical situation, say you are completing medical school at age 32. You have 300K debt in student loans. How does pay work for residency? From my understanding, 1st year is internship where you are typically paid 40K w/ benifits. Next 4-5 yrs are residency(surgical) in which you are typically paid 40K w/ a 2 to 3k increase with every year of residency that goes by. So, essentially, you can expect to get paid about 55k with benefits your last yr of residency.

So now you are about 37 or 38 yrs old and done with residency. Fellowship is around the corner. What can a cardio or neuro/spine fellow expect to get paid?

I only ask because at certain age money becomes VERY important...kids, family etc.

thanks in advance
