Hi all,

I have a few hundred dollars of book $ that I need to use within the next week and I am an MS1. I have been reading these forums and it seems that:

First Aid 2009 (I have the 2008 version)
USMLE World (I guess this is a question base site)
BRS Series
HY Series
RR
Goljans Audio
Micro Made Ridiculously Simple

are the top books to get? I plan on studying 15 hrs/day for 7 weeks for this exam. Can some one please let me know of any essential books that I should definitely get before this money runs out? Kaplan series? tests? ect.

thanks for the help in advance. I have read through forums but they vary so much I hope to get a general consensus. Please say if you did well on the steps.

Go away. Do not come back for at least another year. Take your money and spend it on something fun instead or pay back your loans. Do not do any boards studying this summer because you're not going to remember it anyway and that will officially classify you as a dork, and that is in a bowl full of dorks.

Newsflash: You will, in all liklihood, not spend 15 hours per day for 7 weeks studying for step I. There are very few people who can do this without having to jab an icepick through their frontal lobe-- we all say we're going to do it, but none of us do. Five weeks will probably be plenty of time for you to study for your boards. The best thing you can do for yourself is to enjoy your summer, relax, refresh, get laid, get a life, and go back to medical school and learn second year as well as you can so that when you do review for the boards it's actually review and not "wtf is this crap?"

You won't need FA 2009 if you have 2008, unless you realllly want the new one, get BRS physiology, RR Pathology, MMRS. These are pretty much the essentials. Your qbank you won't get until next year so that's off the list.

I personally liked RR Biochem, HY Anatomy, BRS Behavioral Science.

I also liked Levinson (lange) for immunology but not the microbio part so much, see if you can just find it in your school's library since you'd be only using 90 pgs of the 400-500 or so if you only used the immunology portion.

And save some $$ for the summer to have fun.
