I'm taking the MCAT next year. I'm just curious to know how much money did each one of you spent just studying for the MCAT.

Lets see:

Taking the MCAT twice: $190 x 2 = $380
TPR Course: $1499.99
EK Books: $150
Kaplan Book: $25.00
AAMC Tests: $10.00

Grand Total: $2064.99

I really needed a lot of prep so I spent a ton of money, but people have spent like $100 in books and and the $190 on the test and have still done well.

Examkrackers course: 1500 (that's what it says on my statement)
Kaplan course: $1449
Refund from cancelled examkrackers course: -$1500
Getting to keep the books: -$ whatever the books cost
the MCAT itself: $200
Gas money driving to kaplan course: who knows?
loss of sanity: way too much

kaplan class: $1500
EK audio osmosis: $200
mcat registration: $200
kaplan comprehensive review book: $60

almost $2000!!!
I didn't even think about it until now. God that's pretty depressing. I hope it's worth it. :(

About $600 for:
EK Complete 5th edition
EK Audio Osmosis
EK 1001 for Physics, OChem, Chem, and Biology
EK 101 Verbal
24 Practice Exams (5 AAMC, 11 Kaplan, 8 TBR)
Nova MCAT Physics Book
Organic Chemistry as a Second Language
TPR Science Review books
Other random practice passages

Don't think I'll need to sign up for a prep course with this much material :p

TPR class - 1500
AAMC tests - 10
registration - 200 (was it really this much? It seems like a lot)
--------------------
$1710 canadian.
Wow. for 1 test. Now that I think about it, that is insane.
1st TPR diag was a 24, ended up with 33 last august.

TPR 2004 100 [thought these were rare buys] in 2008
TPR 2009 100 [turns out they weren't] in 2009
EK 120
Nova 40
EK 101/1001 series 130
AAMC 245 USD = 306 CAD
MCAT = 280 USD = 350 x 2
TBR [GenChem/Physics] = 200 CAD

$1696 - slightly better than taking a course

Although I do plan to resell.

princeton class ( so useless) - 1800.00
EK books - 120.00
mcat - 250.00 (or something like that)

total = 2170.00:scared:

TPR class= $1800
EK Books and other books= $200
The actual exam= $210

My feeling when I got my score back= priceless. :)

MCAT prep books/videos = $450
AAMC MCAT CBTS 7-10 =$140
MCAT test registration = $225

Total=$815

I thought the classes at $1700-$1900 were too expensive. When I see my score in a week I may realize the folly of that reasoning.

You guys are all ahead of the game. I spent nearly €6,000 on German language courses to get into med school.

Kaplan Book- Free from friend
Kaplan FLs- "
10 GS CBTs- $40 via ebay
7 AAMC practice tests- free via school
EK 101 Verbal- $15
Registration- $220

$275 total

BR class $1595
EK books (free loaner set in lab)
PR books (free loaner set in lab)
AAMC exams $70
Gas to drive to tutoring sessions $50 (tutoring was free though)
MCAT $215

total: $1930 (wow!)

Have to say though, the BR course was worth every penny.

Oh man I have spent more than 2 grand for sure.

Prep class=1500
Exam krackers=200
Gold standard ten test=40
Kaplan 2008 full study=100
Going to end up buy AAMC (3-4 tests)=100-200
Test 1=210
Retake test 2=225
Reschedule fee test 1=50

TPR course: 1100
3 EK101 books: 120
Verbal Mastery: 80
Retake MCAT 3 times + 2 change times (stupid AAMC with their "not enough spaces for Canadian students"): 955

Total: 2255 USD or 2820 CDN

That is not including the three summers that I threw away studying for this stupid ass test (so equivalent of 4-6 month of full-time work just thrown away).

I really think this is a great thread to bump.
I brought everything EK including the audio osmosis and 1001---about 300
TPR verbal course--500
TPR course-1,800
Chad--100
Kaplan Bio and Physics book-100
AAMC offical guide and 1 FL -- I forgot
and the list goes on I am ashamed and I love my daddy, he paid for everything.

I didn't realize these were 7 year old posts, so when I saw AAMC tests for $30 and the MCAT for $190 dollars I was wondering if these people lived in the same country

Anyways,
BR books were about $300, MCAT was $235, and practice tests were $245.
So about $780?
I didn't realize how much it all cost until just now :/

TBR set - 260
TPR Verbal Hyperlearning - 200
EK Bio - 30
EK 1001 physics + chem + orgo ~40
AAMC 3-11 ~ 245
Mcat registration - 235
Studying for MCAT - my soul
Total = 1010 + soul

And it's $310 to register for the MCAT if you do so 1-2 weeks before the exam date.

Studying for MCAT - my soul
So true.

I'm not sure I even want to add this up, but here's a rough guesstimate...
1600 - Kaplan course in 2008
200 - MCAT registration 2008
70 - fee to reschedule 2008 test date (family problems)
(-100 - partial refund for eventually cancelling 2008 seat) :(
200 - MCAT registration 2009
free - somehow I wheedled Kaplan into extending my online access to practice tests
<mumblemumbleunmentionable> AMCAS applications for 2011, 2012 cycles
310 - exorbitant late-registration charge for MCAT 2012
free - a very kind friend loaned me their set of EK and BR materials to re-prep
150 - AAMC self-assessments and practice tests 2012

2430 total.

I'm not even going to include the value of burned vacation days at my salaried rate.

240 MCAT
70 Test Date change
170 TBR GC, OC, Physics
80 TBR Bio
25 EK 101
40 EK 1001 Physics, GC, OC
10 Hyperlearning Verbal
40 TPRH Bio Science
300 Eating out in the last month before exam

$975

your score is worth every penny of it;)

I, too, was like  when I read that.

I got mine for 30.

Oops I guess I bought it for 120. But still thats a lot. At the time the going price for it on sdn for sale was around 100-140ish and I was in desperate mode because I was a bit late on the SN2ed schedule. Obviously now I regret buying it for that much but w/e I got my use out of it, not going to pout. At least I'm getting a head start in being a future doctor with poor money management!

Thanks. Too bad it's now expired for most med schools, which is why I'm taking it again tomorrow. :(

I will count myself extremely lucky if I score as well this time around. :xf:

I delayed my MCAT for a year too. I didn't study at all during that year. I did 2-3 practice passages to get used to the timing again and my score went right back to where it was. It's really not something you ever forget, so that's nice. You'll do fine again I'm sure :)

Well, we'll see.* I'm just hoping to score "not awful".

*Honestly, I've only been studying for a week. (I do not recommend this to anyone, not even my future self.)

TBR science review (no verbal, writing) $140
TPR Verbal: $15
EK 1001 (all 4) $60
EK Bio $25
EK 101 Verbal $30
AAMC guide to MCAT $35 x2 ( They got me with the '2nd edition')
Kaplan Bio $40
Total: $380

AAMC 4,5,7,8,9,11 $210
GS 1-10 $80
Total: $290

2 MCATs $480

Total spent: $1150
-$690 (Sold books on Ebay. Thanks whoever that was!)

Grand Total: $460

I used EBay for everything and I ended up only paying for the actual tests.

I'm taking the MCAT next year. I'm just curious to know how much money did each one of you spent just studying for the MCAT.

About $400 on books and no idea how much on 5hr/Ampd/Monster and delivery ordering for MCAT food.

I made ~180$ studying for the MCAT. I was able to purchase all my books for cheap and sell them for close to retail on SDN and make a decent profit.

I'm actually convinced that someone could turn a decent profit every year by buying sought after books for cheap in the marketplace during down parts of the year (Jan-April) and sell them at a premium when people are urgently trying to start their schedules around June. I honestly remember being unable to sell my books (20+ total) for most of the year, and as soon as school finished in may/june I got bombarded with pm's and emails asking to buy my material.

I haven't seen BerkReviewTeach around here lately, but I will never stop professing how awesome he is. He hooked me up with free TBR CBTs and got me instant access ON A WEEKEND. Just thought I'd mention how amazing he/she is.
