I studied for 4 months for the MCAT and got 29,29,29,31,33 on my Kaplans. I was hoping to break at least a 30, but unfortunately I got a 29. I worked very hard for 4 years, maintaining a 3.75 GPA, winning Phi Beta Kappa, and doing a myriad of other activities (Hospice, Big Brothers/Sisters, Medical Term Abroad, Rugby, Radio, Psychiatric Research, Surgical Observation, etc.). I was doing fine until today when I recieved my MCAT scores: 12BS,11PS,6VR, S WS. I just dont get it... Be reasonable and honest with me, who is going to take someone with the stigma of a 6 into their medical school. I feel really dejected with this; 6 is in the bottom 25% percentile. I dont know what to do now? Should I even bother and apply with such a bad VR score or wait it out until August and retake it? Anybody have any advice for me. I sure could use it. To everybody who broke a 30, I congratulate you.

what i find really odd here is that you got an S in writing whereas a 6 in verbal. They are sort of related, but i guess it happens. Anyway, a 29 isn't horrible. They might realize you can't be all that bad in communication based on your writing score at least, and might be willing to overlook the 6 in light of the big picture. Have hope, man. I am sure with those activites and a good interview, you can get in somewhere in the US.

I am utterly baffled at my VR score, too. I got average science scores (9 BS and 8 P), but a 6 on verbal. Totally unbelievable! I last took the MCAT 10 years ago and got a 10 on the verbal portion. Oh yeah, I also got an "S" on my essay. Go figure. How DOES someone achieve an "S" on the essay and totally bomb the verbal? I'm still in shock. I consider myself a fairly voracious reader and it's usually pretty heady stuff.....can't figure it out....

My advice to you guys who got 6V is to go ahead and apply, but take the August MCAT. Probably your scores are anomolous, maybe even a gridding error or just not your day. Obviously you guys are smart, so just do as many verbal practice tests as you can get and do it again.
