touro ranked 11 in usnews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
this is something touro says that i think is a bit deceitful. they're number 11 or so in the percentage of graduates entering primary care fields. they're unranked in the usnews primary care rankings, though. all their ranking means is that lots and lots of their grads go into primary care -- it doesn't say anything about quality or reputation, which usnews supposedly considers in their official rankings (yeah, i know that's up to debate).

look at the scrolling text.

i cannot find it at usnews.com though. hmmm.

That figure comes from the chart located here. and shows 62% from Touro entering primary care.

It should be no surprise that the top 10 is full of osteopathic programs. Some a little lower down are DMU at 27th, UMDNJ at 38th and PCOM at 112th.

a few years ago, and there were no DO programs ranked anywhere in usnews...

I don't understand why they are bragging. I mean its great that they graduate alot of doctors that are going into the underfillled primary care field, but does this really distinguish this school in any way, especially from the other osteopathic schools?

Why is LECOM nowhere on that list? I would think they were greater than the 34%... Just curious.

That is actually one of West Virginia's biggest selling points as well. I think they "brag" about it to draw attention from those who wish to go into the primary care field even before they arrive at medical school or enter residency. The high number of those entering into primary care would coorelate, to those people, a dedication to teaching this pathway. But, this is only my guess, there must be a reason, or, maybe, they just like putting numbers on their webpage 😀

According to US News LECOM refused to fill out the survey.

Makes sense, I have one of those books about medical schools and rankings and they refused to fill out the form for that one as well. Bastards! 😱

But WVSOM is actually ranked on the real primary care ranking list as well as being number one in terms of the percentage of students entering primary care. That gives WVSOM more bragging rights because USNEWS is saying that WVSOM has shown to have a high quality program for producing primary care physicians, not just that lots of their grads do primary care.

Yes, yes, that is why its their "selling point". Actually one of the reasons I applied there, despite the 70+ grand OOS cost...

kcumb is not on their either... we do a lot of specialists from here... but i guess they didnt fill it out

DO schools have been ranked by US News since at least the mid 1990s.
