Hi! I could use advice on deciding between these 3 schools. I am from NY and am likely to pursue primary care (family med or OB/GYN). At the moment, I'd like to do residency in the northeast, but I know that could change.
TouroCOM Middletown
Pros:
-close to home/support system, 1hr away
-connections with NE hospitals
-campus tour with Ruth and dean was great
-faculty seem really willing to help you
Cons:
-exams every Monday, no weekends off
-multiple courses at a time vs blocks
-campus is just one old building
-student dorms/COL high
-mandatory clickers for lectures first year
-flipped classroom may not suit me
WVSOM
Pros:
-amazing campus/facilities
-pretty location, quiet and serene, good for hiking
-long-standing and single-standing medical school
-ASPIRE (provides academic/wellness support, free tutoring)
-only 1hr of OMM lab/week
-provides Microsoft Surface laptop
-most affordable, tuition 54k, lowest COL
Cons:
-in WV, not an area I see myself staying in
-8hr drive there is not the easiest
-larger class, around 200
-board scores a little lower
-may have to work harder to get NE residency
COMP-NW
Pros:
-digital doctor bag program (iPad)
-interesting longitudinal tracks (lifestyle medicine, humanities in medicine)
-MEDWell (student wellness events)
-beautiful campus
-in PNW, access to outdoor things
-very well-established school
-best interview experience
-grading is H/HP/P/F (not sure if a huge difference from traditional grading)
-smallest class, around 100 (maybe a con too?)
-more diverse rotation sites, rural and urban
Cons:
-super far from home, 6hr flight to PDX + 90min drive
-cloudy/rainy weather could affect my mood
-limited connections with NE? few NY matches
-most expensive overall, tuition 65k, flying/driving costs, COL
