Hi there.

I had every intention of completing my AMCAS and submitting it on June 1st. Yesterday I spent a good amount of time getting transcript requests to all of the relevant institutions.

Of course, one school (my undergrad and current post-bac) says they won't send out transcripts with Spring semester grades before 6/1.

I was wondering if it would be better to wait for it (and potentially be a week behind), or list those courses current/in-progress and send a transcript now with all my post-bac grades except Orgo 2 and Physics 2. (I am NOT depending on these grades to raise my GPA - it's fine as it is.)

I know it's only a week, but with my crappy start in undergrad, I could use every extra day I can get.

Thanks,
-z

You will not be behind if you send your transcripts on June 1st or even in July.

No you can't use every extra day you get because applications aren't even released to med school until late June, med school don't send out secondaries until early July/August (you'll catch up with everyone else on being complete right here) and no one no matter how early they submitted will be getting interviews until September/October.

Wait the week, its not going to have ANY effect whatsoever.

I've actually heard, and read (I think), that the timeframe is more like July 1.

Just wait for the final transcripts. If it takes a week for your transcripts to get to AMCAS, that gives you three, three and one-half weeks for AMCAS to actually process the transcripts. In June, things seem to move faster, and they should have everything ready to go by the beginning of July. I don't think you'll be "behind" the "first-dayers" at all.

Even if you are a week or so behind, it won't make a difference. You'll still be in the first batch of secondaries sent out (at least from screening schools). If you finish the secondaries promptly, you'll also be in the first batch of interview invites sent out.

Don't worry about applying right on June 1. When everyone says "apply early," they mean June. Even submitting an AMCAS in July is relatively early.

You'll be fine. Good luck!

Yeah, I don't think anyone knows the exact date. But I got a secondary on 6/25 last year (from a non-screener) - thats why I said end of June. But I agree with you most schools don't do anything until July.

Phew, that is quick. Maybe they payed AMCAS to let them get early access. They knew we'd be suckers and pay the $100 secondary processing fee!

BTW, were those schools by chance GWU or GTown? Not that I think about it, I recall receiving their secondary the minute I clicked the AMCAS submit button!😉

Yup. GW sent me a secondary before I was even verified from AMCAS and GTown shortly thereafter. So obviously they get SOMETHING before July, whether that is just your name/email and the fact that you applied to their school or its the whole application I couldn't tell you.
