Do we need to go in-depth about the actual mechanisms of transcription factors (esp. w.r.t. histone modification)? Or do we just need to know that they exist and general types (repressor, activator, etc.)?

And specifically for tumor suppressors & oncogenes: how much do we need to know about specific examples (Myc, p53, etc.)?

I don't think very much detail is needed in these areas. At least that's the impression I get from the EK Bio book. There was about 1 paragraph for oncogenes in the genetics chapter.
