Hi

I will be starting an osteopathic general surgery program in July. However, my wife will not be able to move across the country with me due to some very important circumstances. I'm looking into the possibility of transfering back to my home state into a MD general surgery program later in PGY-2. I know that general surgery spots become available throughout the year. Is this possible? Are MD programs favorable towards a DO transfer if they have an unusual circumstace?

Any help would be appreciated.

If you do an Osteopathic internship, you can transfer programs into a PGY-1 year, you can't transfer into a PGY-2 spot unless it's a also ACGME accredited or you somehow manage to get credit for it. the only way to "transfer" would be to start over as an intern.
