Hello

Im a sophomore finance major at Mercer Univeristy, in Macon, GA. Up to this point my college experience has been a turbulent one. After failing a class and getting a D freshman year, I took a semester off and moved to the UK. Regaining my focus, I came back a semester later, decided to major in finance and have been following the pre-Ibanking track, if you will, ever since. I have retaken the classes I performed poorly in, and now have a 3.8, with 64 hours after this semester (28 of those from AP examinations). I am also very active in the student body, serving on the student government, tutoring math, and serving as founder/president of the investors group here. I'm currently looking for an internship for this summer, and have alot of options.

Since I was a child my aspiration was to be an MD, and I'm confident I have what it takes. I excelled in the sciences in high school, and was right on track, until biology. I hated my teacher and, as such, performed poorly in the class (although I still managed a 4 on the AP exam). I've recently been questioning my motivation for being on the path I'm on, and the lack of satisfaction I will probably experience. Since I've been having these doubts, I've read some articles and talked to some people i the healthcare industry, as well as some MDs. I've decided to give biology another shot, and pursue my MD-- while holding on to my business background.

As I said, I am a sophomore, and have applied to admission to Emory's Goizueta school of business for the fall of next year. Hopefully I'll get in, and I'll have to finish my BBA while getting in all the Med School pre reqs. This will almost certainly take longer than 2 years, and I probably won't be able to take the MCATs until my senior year, delaying my entry into med school and necessitating a year or so off. Am I wrong in these assumptions?

What I could do is take chemistry 1 and 2 this summer, and then next year really load down with calculus, organic, physics, and biology both semesters and take the MCATs in April. Will I be ready? Then, next summer and my senior year I could finish (hopefully?) my business school classes.

Also, what sort of internships are appropriate for those seeking an MD/MBA? Next year I will start assisting with some research, and volunteering in a clinical setting, as well as my normal business activities- but what would be some good summer activities? Ibanking? Accounting? Volunteering? Something abroad? I'm really sort of stuck here trying to strike a balance...

Additionally, if I need to take time between BBA and MD/MBA what would my year or two be best spent doing? Ibanking? Accounting at a big 4? Volunteering abroad? I was even considering something in the military...

My goals are to end up at a top MD/MBA school- Harvard, UPenn (which I am in love with), Duke, Yale, etc.

Any advice is greatly appreciated
Thanks
J
