I am wondering about how the process works for a dental student out of a specialty residency (ortho, pedo, perio, endo) I have heard that they travel to dental offices and handle specialty cases, for a % of the revenue. If anyone knows rates and % of any regions could you post these? One of the posts on the dental board mentioned that an ortho spec. could gross 2k/day in NY is that the norm?

Former fellow residents I keep in touch with are getting 500 to 600 per day for ortho first yr out. This is a wealthy area. They said theres a lot of saturation.

Here in NYC, I have heard $600/day for Pedo & Ortho first year out as well. I heard one pediatric dentist scoff at the new specialty grads who ask for more than $600/day. I've also seen a practice offering $50/hour putting on brackets in a most ghetto ortho office (radiographs? study models? what are those?) located in a wealthy Manhattan neighborhood. I have also heard orthodontists balk at the thought of even taking an associate because they don't have the volume to support one. This is a saturated area for sure, better come in with a good business plan or a dad who already has an office if you plan to set up around here.
