I'm flying for an interview in boston. I'm thinking about flying into Manchester, NH b/c I have a free roundtrip from Southwest and they only fly to Manchester...but I was wondering if there's an easy way to get from Manchester to boston through public transportation?? I'd be arriving at like 7:30pm at night...I don't know if there's something that runs that late. Or do you think that's a bad idea and I should just take a flight into boston, even though the flight will cost like about 400 since it's a very last minute purchase. help please!!!

I go to school in Boston. I don't think there's public transportation to Manchester. You might want to check flying to Providence, RI (I think Southwest flies there). I think there is a commuter rail station in Providence that would take you to Boston. I'm not sure since I've never tried it myself. The best bet though is to fly to Boston.

try greyhound. they'll have buses but i don't know how the schedule is.

check out www.vermonttransit.com.

if your flight arrives in at 7:30, you could make the 10:20pm bus to boston from the Manchester Airport, and arrive in Boston at 11:35 pm.

i'd definitely fly into manchester or providence and pay the bus fair (like 25 dollars) as opposed to an addition 300 dollars to fly to boston directly.

I also live in Boston, so I'm happy to answer any other questions you have as well.

There's no public transport from Manchester to Boston. I am sure however there are van or bus companies that do the trip, however, because there are a sizable number of Bostonians who prefer Manchester airport to Logan. There is also the option of renting a car, however if you've never been to Boston before, well, you're in for a treat. Obviously renting a car is not as cheap as public transport, but its still cheaper than a $400 plane ticket through Logan, I should hope.

I live in Boston as well, so def. PM me with questions.

I guess I disagree with everyone else here on the thread. I've flown into Manchester before, and it's not fun. The bus (depending on which you get) may be local, meaning that it may stop at like 20 small towns before getting to Boston. If this is for an interview, I guess I'd think about how late I'd want to be up the night before, and if I would want to have to deal with all that extensive travelling. That's just my 2 cents though. Providence is definitely do-able, however.

Southwest does go to Providence. If you fly into Providence, the last commuter train leaves at 9:47pm on weekdays and arrives in Boston at 10:55pm. It costs $6 one-way. I've never taken it, but I got this onfo off the mbta website. Seems like an easy option; I had professors in college who would make the commute daily, and it seems like a pretty painless option. It appears form the schedule, though, that the commuter rail doesn't leave Providence on weekends b/c the schedule lists South Attleboro as the first stop. ???

I agree with the person who recommended flying into Providence. The commuter rail goes there (via the The Attleboro/Stoughton Train Line), and is generally reliable for travel into Boston. Southwest does fly into Providence TF Green Airport, so you can still use your free ticket. Here is a link to the commuter rail scedule from Providence (for the week day Boston bound trains): http://www.mbta.com/traveling_t/sch...ay&line=attleboro&sched_type=Inbound&x=36&y=9 If you are travelling on a weekend, the train schedule will be different.

you'd have to take a taxi or something from tf green in providence to the commuter rail station b/c the airport is kinda in the middle of nowhere from what i remember. but it's not a long ride, i don't think, and you should have no prob making the train.

thanks guys for all your responses!

If you stick w/Manchester, do the car rental. It will save you so much time to just drive yourself instead of waiting for a bus, and then having the bus take eternity to get you there...of course, there is the parking issue...but if it has to be Manchester, its probably worth it.
