i have an interview at michigan state on february 6th and was wondering if anyone had any advice on the following:

1) what airport to fly into? detroit or lansing?
2) where someone would recommend staying?

i would appreciate any assistance on this important matter. please post your thoughts/comments here. thanks.

I would fly into lansing if it's possible although i don't remember hearing of an airport in lansing....it could be a smaller airport that I'm not familiar with but if you find a plane route that goes there that'd be the fastest and easiest since if you were to fly to detroit metro you'd have another 2 hour drive to east lansing. You may also want to look into the flint bishop airport although i'm not sure about it accepting too many straight flights from out of state. But if you can book a ticket to a lansing airport that'd be the closest to MSU. For accomodations I'm not to sure about, I guess you can never go wrong with holiday inn's but i don't even know if there's one in lansing. Hope this helped

i would fly into lansing if possible-- it may be hard to find a flight, but if you can get one, go for it. lansing borders east lansing, so it would only be a few minutes in a cab. there is a hotel close to msu's campus --- it's a marriot hotel and it's located on albert rd. (about a five minute cab ride most of which is stoplights- at most, it's a mile away from fee hall). if price is an issue, i could check on some cheaper rooms for you- but the hotel i mentioned is a safe bet (i've stayed there before). if you need any other advice- leave your e-mail address and i can get into contact with you (i am an undergrad student at msu)-- hope it works out for you.

Fly into Lansing, the airport is like 15-20mins from campus, especially since ur not from the area, Metro airport in Detroit is about an hr and a half drive. Flint Bishop airport is 45mins drive from campus area. If you are saving a lot of money and wanted to do that, then you might want to rent a car or something. Your best bet is definitely Lansing airport!

I'm at MSU as well, I know some people stay at Butterfield on campus, which is like an on campus housing, i think its like under $40 a day. If u like, I can call them monday and find out exactly.
the schl bus sytems is right by it, and there is a bus stop by the med schl, so u could actually do that if u want.

The Marriott will be on the pricey side. Well the best I found, I called and checked is the Super 8 motel, its 3mins from CHM-MSU. Its also in East Lansing
Its 49.95 for a single, and $45 for a double, weekday rate. 517-337-1621

the residence inn, its like 3min drive from CHM, it might be slighly higher. (517)332-7711

Congratulations, goodluck, when is ur interview. I work at CHM actually, and did undergrad, and doing grad here so might be able to help if u have questions. CHM is a great school, friendly atmosphere . Go Michigan State, go SPARTANS!!!!
 😀 😛

When I was looking for plane tickets to michigan st., the only cheap fares I found was flying into Grand Rapids (GRR). I think I got it for $250 flying from SFO and the cheapest I found flying into Lansing was $450.

I rented a car and drove 66 miles to east lansing and stayed at the Butterfield Guest House (about $39).

Good Luck! The people at MSU are really helpful and friendly. I really liked it there...

the cheapest fare I found was to fly in Detroit and take a turbo prop into Lansing. It was not a bad flight at all. The jump from detroit to lansing is very short. I even drove a couple days later from lansing back to detroit for Wayne State, and then drove back to Lansing the same day to fly home. I think the drive only took about an hour or so.

thanks everyone for your help. it is very much appreciated. my interview is on february 6th.....if anyone else has suggestions or comments, please leave them here. again, to those who have left previous comments.....thanks!!!!!

I had my family stay at the Super 8 for my graduation, and I wouldn't reccommend it to anyone, unless you are willing to sacrifice price for dirtiness ( I'm talking soap left in the shower with hair in it, dirty toilets, etc)...My parents were disgusted, and told them so...However, if you are willing to suffer through that to save some money, then the Super 8 would be a good buy I guess!

My advice is to see what flight is cheapest and factor in the cost it would take to get a rental car from either Grand Rapids or Detroit Metro. The drive from Detroit can be a pretty hectic one depending on the time of day. The drive from Grand Rapids is very easy and only about an hour.

When I interviewed at CHM I stayed at the Ramada Inn on Trowbridge which is just to the west of campus. To get to Life Sciences was easy, its just a 3 min drive down Service Road.

Let me know if you have any questions about MSU CHM.

I LOVE MSU CHM. It was my first acceptance and I just LOVED it. Ok, enuf cheese...the bottom line is: I stayed at the hotel school hotel on campus (they have lower rates for CHM candidates). I flew into Lansing--Northwest has cheap rates, or was it Southwest? PM me if you need any info. I interviewed 10/31 and got the MAGIC phone call from Dean Shafer on Tuesday night 11/5. I was out in Calif and had just finshed interviews at 2 very unpleasing DO schouuls, and literally almost had an MI when I got the call. I AM SO EXCITED!!! MSU CHM Class of 2007 HERE I COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, I'm an MSU undergrad, also got accepted to MSU's college of human medicine. My roommate won't be in town for a week, so I have an extra bed and completely wouldn't mind! In fact, a random stranger undergrad at the school i interviewed at in conneticut did the same thing for me, so I feel I should pay society back! 🙂 In any regard, I'd be glad to show you around if you come the day before or stay after...

Feel free to email me [email protected]

Just had to say to say again

Go Stttttttttttttttttttttate, Go SPARTANS!!!!!!! I bleed GREEN and White.

Bare with me, just a 2nd generation MSU student letting loose 😛

BTW, Mossjoh, I might know u, do u come to Student affairs, if so I'm one of the people that works there. If someone stuffed ur mailbox with the wrong mail, I swear, it wasn't me 🙁

Grand Rapids isnt bad to fly in from, its just an hr drive, better to drive from there than Metro, if you don't know the area well, you might run into traffic, Flint Bishop airport isnt bad, shorter driver, takes me 45mins.

lotanna--I sent you a PM
