About a month ago on the local news was a story of a private university here in Jacksonville that will be opening an Orthodontic school (there was some controversy something like the main donor was going to get a heavy profit).

They don't even have a medical or dental program...would you trust a school like this???

Heres the link:

http://www.ju.edu/academics/grad_orthodontics.asp

Just seems weird to me...are there others like this???

wow. that is odd. the link that you included had an additional hyperlink to orthoeducation.com. it seems that this is the basis for the program at ju.

I have heard of ortho and other residency programs that reside at schools without dental schools. For example, Vanderbilt has an ortho program.

But i have never heard of a situation like this. It says they will have more fulltime faculty than any other ortho residency. Where are they all coming from?

I must say, however, that the combined ortho certificate/MBA program sounds awfully intriguing.

Interesting. But $45,000/ yr plus instrument purchase for 3 years. And as far I can tell, no stipend or enough time for moonlighting. Who is gonna be able to attend this program???!!! I guess maybe if you've been in private practice for a few years and been living like a miser, but sheesh!!!

I wonder how many residents they accept per year. If it's a large number, it probably won't be as competetive as some of the other programs out there but I guess the trade off is the cost. IMO, it seems like the ITT tech of ortho.
