I recently acquired a Tufts DMD program information booklet and I was amazed by the D06's board average, 89.1, ranked 4th in the nation. However, the D04 and D05 were ranked 24th and 23rd, respectively.
What was going on in the D04 and D05 classes?

look at the last column D'07, and look at how many people did not pass?

omg, 20 people didn't pass. Howui, did you ask the dean to address this question in your interview at tufts?

They made a curiculum change and pushed the date of the boards earlier. Mark admitted that this was a mistake and that they have since changed back. (It's been awhile since my interview so my memory may be a bit shakey, but that was the gist of it)

You have to realize that Board scores are really more dependent on individuals than on the school you attend. Almost all schools will teach the basics and give you the opportunity to build a solid foundation for the Boards. The real work involves getting the Decks down cold, looking at other resources to fill some gaps (i.e. Lipponcott for Biochem, USMLE First Aid, etc.), and taking old exams. The reason you find schools that have oscillating statistics year to year is the different student makeup of each class. Just my 2 cents...

I agree, the school does not take the boards, the students do. That's why you are better off looking at all board stats with a grain of salt. If you want to pass the boards, you will pass the boards no matter where you go - plain and simple.
