Why do schools have the same tuition and addl. expenses, but then when you see the ave. student indebtness at grad., they vary by 20K? Am I missing something?

Since the cost of living varies from region to region, it's possible that students must borrow more to cover living expenses at one school than at another.

Just a thought

Some schools, especially some private ones, have extremely good financial aid/scholarship packages for their students. That can make a gigantic difference in terms of overall indebtedness at the end.

So then would it be better to look at the avg student debts, rather than straight costs, for deciding about which schools will be cheaper?
