Since nothing is updated yet for the 2007-2008 school year, does anyone know the up to date costs of attending optometry school? I know some schools have had increases which are not posted yet on their website.

Tuition Increase + OverSupply + Higher Interest Rate on Student Loans + $30 eye exams at certain places = Worth IT??

I think a plumber gets paid more to make a visit to a house, than some OD's get paid to an eye exams.

I know this is a bit off topic but.. I emailed UAB's "recruitment" person about tuition and gaining instate tuition after a certain amount of time.

The guy said that there's some sort of new law... no matter how long you stay there as an OD student, NO instate tuition! Unless, of course, you stay at the state a year before entering school.

Here I was thinking that I could gain resident status! My license plate and license would probably be of that state, why can't my tuition be?

I think i've heard its always becoming more difficult to get in-state tuition after you already started school. Check with financial aid, if worse case scenario, you can always hire a lawyer to review your case. This is easily a 100k education nowadays, make sure you have reviewed all possible ways to save money.

I've read that buying real estate in Texas = automatic state residency...

Bump, can any current students post how much tuiton is for this coming year?

At UHCO, they gave me 2 ways to gain in-state tuition. One was to live in the state and work for a year PRIOR to entering into school. That was out of the question for me. The other way they told me that it could happen was by getting a scholarship that was worth at least $1000/year. They didn't give me any other ways of getting. I guess it depends on the state.

And hey PrettyGreenEyes, when do you find out if you got accepted into WICHE? I would need to know if I got into it or not to decide which school I am going to....

Unfortunately, you generally don't find out until the end of the application cycle. I found out at the end of April, but I've heard of it taking as long as May or June. When I decided between ICO and Pacific, I made the decision based on factors other than cost, because I wouldn't know if Pacific would be cheaper because of WICHE for several months. (Luckily... it was!) You would more than likely have to pay the deposits the schools you would decide between and probably lose one in the end when you finally do hear from WICHE.
