No one can really guarantee a publication if it's not even written. A lot of PIs can talk about publications, but unless they or their graduate students are go-getters, it's not going to get done. Why don't you think you can get published interning in one of these groups? As a grad student, I've come to find that the only one that keeps you from a publication if you have a good experiment/data is yourself (and well your advisor but let's just say that he/she pushes you to publish). Is it paid (this internship of which you speak)? If so, how does the pay compare to the biophys group? If not, work in your established biophys lab. You would get to know the dental school before you started classes if you worked for the dental group. Not to mention connections with faculty and future opportunities for collaboration if you so desired. Thoughts?
