Guys...I'hv a Bsc in Psych from Davis, Gpa 3.2 but will do anything for Medicine......what should I do to improve my chances. Also suggestion's regarding preparation for mcat. My friends are offering me a study material but I'm debating in spending extra$1000 to actually go through review course. should I take review course or study material will do the job...

What do you do outside the classroom. Get involved with some things you ENJOY. As long as it's something in the morally acceptable range (exotic dancing, robbing dorm rooms don't count) and you show true committment to it, it should work to help strengthen you as an applicant, let alone as a person.

As for review courses.. hit Search (above the menu at the top) and type in review course, you should find plenty of good advice.

The 3.2 isn't a big problem. There are people with GPAs like that on this board who are getting interviews. Just make sure you have good MCATs and some ECs to back it up (the one you have there sounds good).

As to the review class... Like USeF said, we've been over this too many times before! :D It's my contention that courses are a waist of time and money. You're better off just taking the time and studying on your own. But do a search, and you'll get a whole bunch of various opinions on that one.

Typically, punctuation such as exclamation points are not preceded by spaces. :D

Hey, that was a while ago! Shame on you, picking up on old mistakes! Besides, we're talking about loveryboy now. Get out of the past. ;)

BCGirl - sorry to see that guy go after you on Ian Wong's board. I would've stuck up for you, but I didn't catch it until just today, and things had already moved on. Anyway, I can completely understand your situation.

    Hi loverboy,

If you can, try to get a little experience in the clinical realm, volunteering in a hospital, at a hospice, etc. Choose something about which you're genuinely excited.

I think the question of whether or not to take a prep course really depends upon what kind of a learner you are. If you learn very well independently, perhaps better than you do in class, then I'd say forgo the class and study on your own. If, on the other hand, you need some additional motivation and discipline, then by all means take the course.

In terms of applying, in general. . . others may disagree with me on this note, especially since I have a tendency to be (excessively?) idealistic, but a general rule of thumb I've always upheld has been to avoid focusing on "getting in" and instead focusing on developing the skills (both intellectual and interpersonal) that will help me to be a GOOD DOCTOR. THe two go hand in hand...but are not one and the same! Participate in activities that you truly enjoy; explore; learn. These things may manifest themselves in different ways, and will ultimately help you with other areas of life aside from getting into med school.

Just a few thoughts. :) Good luck in your pursuits!

Of course, praying4MD. You're allowed to criticise. It's just those of us 'newbies' who can't dare touch you people. Maybe there should be some kind of posting limit at which criticizm is allowed. I'm closing in on 200 here - maybe there should be an intermediate category. We could maybe use personal messages to point out errors in our superiors... Is that an OK compromise? :D

Yeah! I'm an SDN Personality. They like me! They really like me! :D

Well, I think you're promoted brandonite because your posts have been especially entertaining recently. Criticism by brandonite is now granted. Consider yourself knighted by the SDN Flirt Goddess. (has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?)

I also find Trek's posts to be quite humorous, so go ahead and add him to the list.

Others will be announced as Watcha and I see fit and at our discretion. However, be forewarned that this title can be rescinded at a later date if we are given reason to doubt your level of maturity. If anything above a sophomore level of maturity is displayed, you're outta here! :D

Keep posting, and pretty soon, we'll let you in on the secret handshake too. ;)

OK! I'm so proud of mysefl. Forget about finals - I'm an SDN personality now! Finals mean nothing now! *sniffle*

I'll do my best to uphold the trust displayed in my. I will post in any and all lounge threads dealing with sex in any way, shape or form. And I shall always respect my elders guidance and mock those who ask for the stats of others for the thousandth time. And, with God as my witness, I will ensure that SDN triumphs over the TPR boards!

As I can hear Jaimer2 beginning to play the music that signals this thread straying off topic, I will just say one last thing: long live the Flirt Goddess!! :D

Ummm actually, me, scoob and MD2Be are forming a triumvrate (sp? but i don't give a sh!t) and are going to take over SDN. We can't tell you the day of our assault, but it will be swift, severe, and complete. Then we'll grant each of you posting priviledges as we see fit (i can already tell praying4 is gonna get the can). After a while we'll rename this site and make it a pay site, along with a mirror for porno images in the medical vein. Then...our rule will be total. Damn, now where's the rest of that case of beer?? --Trek

brandonite: you are too funny. LOL. Good thinking, you are now obliged to post on all sex threads in the Lounge... that would be Every thread in the Lounge at this point. Are people always this desperate around finals? :) In addition, you will be eligible for further privileges if you include some racy comments in your posts. Yes, Long Live the Flirt Goddess!

Trek, Trek, Trek. When will the newbies learn? We Veterans have already gotten word of your conspiracy to overthrow the Gods and Goddesses of SDN. We are already working within your camps. I'd watch your back if I were you. Do not think it is beneath the SDN Gods/Goddesses to utilize sexual favors as a way to redeem intelligence information from you rebels. Such are our tactics... And NO that is NOT an offer!! :D

praying4MD: I'm with you! Together we shall destroy the infidels who dare criticize (with a 'z' this time!) the great leaders of SDN! Death to all who oppose the Flirt Queen! How dare Trek say such things...
