One thing the med students told me at lunch was that if you were an out-of-stater, then you would be placed on the wait list. They told me that some out of staters are granted acceptances off the bat, but that most are put on the waitlist. Out of the 6 students we had lunch with, 5 were put on the waitlist and only 1 got an immediate acceptance. But then what they do is break the waitlist up into three tiers. If you are placed in the top 1/3 (or 1st tier), then they told us that you are almost for sure in and so on down the line.
