I just got the "you are in our competitive pool" e-mail from UW today. Guess I'm not competitive enough to get an acceptance right off the bat. :( They say that last year 32% of the people on this list were accepted and that the latest possible date to find out a change in status is April 2002.

Does anyone know if they take people off this list throughout the year or just all at once in April? Also, does anyone know if they've been accepting people at the normal rate or if they're being more conservative this year because of AMCAS problems?

Welcome to SDN! :) When did you interview, and how did it go? I will be interviewing there in Feb as a WWAMI applicant. Where are you from? Can't really answer your questions, but I wish you the best of luck. Your odds sound pretty darned good.

And, hey, congrats on your Tulane and Mich (is that U. Michigan?) acceptances!! :D

Hey there...congrats on being competative...could be worse! ;) From what I've heard (and I'm a WWAMI applicant so I'm not sure how this will apply to you) is that they actually put quite a few on a list of competative people and everytime the committee meets, "competative applicants" come up again as well as the newly interviewed candidates. I actually have a couple of friends that were first put on as competative and then got acceptances (one girl only a month later when MT students were looked at again).

How did the interview go for you? Were they as tough as there reputation says they are at grilling applicants? Good luck to you! :)

does anyone know how long it's taking them to reject someone after primaries? i know their secondary deadline is in mid-january but if they are already scheduling interviews into feb, aren't they running out of interview spots? i haven't even gotten a rejection or the secondary app (perhaps i'm not important enough to deal with right now?). <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Thanks for the warm welcome SMW. I'm a WA resident and that is U of Michigan.

As for the interview...
They did say that they are making a concerted effort to make their interviews more enjoyable and downplay their horrible reputation but I didn't quite see that. Their questions weren't too difficult but there was one interviewer that kept throwing in questions that had little to do with the issue we were discussing at the time. As a result, the interviewer that had asked the orignal question was not able to follow through with that question and, I felt, was not satisfied. Does that make any sense? It is hard to explain.

amonkeybutt-
I'm not sure how long they are taking to reject after primaries. I do know that if you have a 27MCAT and 3.6 waitedGPA you are granted an automatic interview (although that may just be for WWAMI applicants). As for scheduling interviews in February-they interview all WWAMI applicants at the same time, I believe either in Jan or Feb so that is probably why they're already scheduling Feb interviews. It doesn't necessarily mean they don't still have open slots before then. I know that they haven't been interviewing as many applicants this year as in past years because of the problems w/AMCAS so that could be a factor. Hope that info helps.

Gower,
Do you have any info about u. washington?

thanks for your reply ccryder. i'm not a WWAMI or in-state resident so i think the criteria you stated does not apply to me. in fact, i called today to check on my app and before i could tell the lady anything about myself besides the fact that i am an out-of-state resident she told me to "not put all your eggs in our basket" since the admissions committee RARELY grants interviews for people like me. oh well, i guess i knew that from friends that applied in previous years but still was stubborn enough (or dumb enough) to try anyways. anyhow, good luck to everyone who have or are interviewing there. :)

They told us that an email would come saying that we are competative, otherwise, a letter with an acceptance or rejection in the next week. In my impatient state, I was wondering, how long did it take for the email to be sent? Has anyone else been told they are "competative"? Thanks!
