Has anyone heard any recent news about UAB or USA acceptances? I know UAB just started their waitlist today because I got an email from them.

Good luck, BP. Maybe I'll see you in Mobile!

It's good to see someone who knows what USA is! Oldman says: HUH? What's a USA?

Have any other USA acceptees received financial aid info yet? I haven't heard anything since receiving the thin letter. Also, when do classes begin? I know it's sometime in mid-August. An exact date would be nice. I guess I could call them...

do any of you know what kind of non-need based scholarships UAB offers? How many do they offer? Do they offer full tuition scholarships with stipend? I've checked out the UAB website, but the info on scholarships is pretty scant. Thanks.

Sorry if this strays from the point, but here's the USA handbook for last year. I just stumbled on it and thought I'd share.

I think it came around six or so. Pretty late since the office closes at five.

Hey Swampy,

South is still working on things for financial stuff. I wonder if they are waiting for all acceptances first before doing scholarships? I hope not. I'll mail you a break down of tuition, costs and classes to soothe the savage soul (don't worry, just a stamp this time.)

For others, South was waiting on AMCAS to send the info on applicants acceptances to other places, etc. so they would know how many to commit to. This was supposed to arrive by March 15, with letters mailed by South around a week or two later. However, AMCAS still has not come through. What a surprise Mark Scott is still waiting... My friends got their emails from UAB this morning first thing...

Thanks lamyers! I was told they'd take ~$9,000 right off the top of the aid package for tuition and fees.

5 more months! Can't wait. Should I wear a UF shirt the first day of class so you know who I am? Hopefully they'll have name tags.

I think they are going to take us through that entire brochure during orientation. :( That is going to be one looooooong day.

Hey lamyers!

Also...
UAB does not have full tuition scholarships that I know of. There is a "merit" scholarship that is $5,000/year and that is only available to Alabama residents. A state committee chooses recipients from both USA and UAB to receive this. Please someone correct me if I have any of this wrong...

There were 151 accepted applicants emailed about a month ago to let us know about the class website, etc... So far only about 50 or so have posted to the website confirming they are going to UAB. I guess a lot of people are still waiting to hear from other schools.

Good luck to all :D and I do believe that there is substantial movement on the UAB waiting list, as I have heard this before.

11. What did the email from UAB say about the waitlist? I interviewed, but I have not received anything from UAB. Thanks!

Bama,
I was a standard email telling me I was not selected for the class, but was put on a certain third of the alternated list and in the past those in my position have mostly been accepted. Kind of funny the last paragraph said don't call his office until May, I guess we are killing him with calls. Have you graduated from U of A? I finished in May of 2000. Good luck.

**sigh**
Well, my e-mail account is FINALLY up and working, and lo and behold there was a waitlist e-mail from UAB. This week seems to be my waitlist week...two in two days...

Aphrodite,
Congrats, what third did you get on. I am on the second third so I would put my chances to be pretty high. I heard all of the second third got in last year, I am not sure if that is true, but this year is screwy anyway.
Good luck

Bradleyp,

I'm unfortunately in the 3rd tier (bottom third). Good luck to you! Last year, four of my friends were in the second tier, and all got in...can't say the same for the third tier. Ah well... :) Good luck.

Bradleyp?
I got the same letter you did, does this mean I should make plans to attend UAB? I heard there are 2 waitlist letters that UAB sends out. The first one is optimistic and the second one is pessimistic. Is this true?

Sammarai,
I would in no way call it a guarantee by any means, but it does, if going by the past, give a high probability of being accepted. I live in Birmingham, so I don't know how extensive my planning would be anyway. I would call it probable based on what I have heard, that we will be accepted, plus they would not give us an optimistic letter if they felt we wouldn't get in.
Good luck. You can go to their website and look at how many were accepted to fill the recent classes to give you at least a rough estimate of the alternate list over the past few years.

I know that UAB has about 160 seats but I don't know how many offers they issue before the make up the waitlist. Last year they offered about 220 positions but I don't know how many of them came of the waitlist. The wait till June or July is going to kill me!
