ok..im filling out the UC application and have a question. what is the difference between the "extracurricular, community and activities" section and the "chronological post-secondary history" section?

Been wondering the same thing... I'm putting down academic activities under "Extracurricular..." section and all activities under "Chronological..." section.

can you guys tell me how to access the uc application?

Hey calbears, does the 84 refer to the year you were born? If so, I'm starting to feel old...

As to the UC application, last year both sections had limited room to write, so I divided my info up according to what I wanted to say about different activities. The chronological post secondary history may be more geared to people like me, who were out of school some terms in the middle of undergrad. I used it to put down what I was doing when I was not in school (jobs, or other activities when you aren't in school aren't extracurricular, they're the main event). If I wanted to say more about an activity, specifically the clinically related and community service type things I did, I put them under the "extracurricular, community and activities" where I had more room, and them just mentioned them by name under chronological.

Ex. Activities: Asian Outreach Project. Volunteered for an immunization project targeting vietnamese speaking immigrants. Took health histories, helped families with paperwork, blah blah blah.

Chronological: 1999: Returned to UC Berkeley in January, started at Asian Outreach Project, president of xyz club, blah blah blah.

Hey Bruinkid, here's the link from the previous post.

Help! On page 1, if I'm applying to all the UC's, do I check off all of them? or just check off the one to which the app is being sent to? Thanks.

??
If anyone else is even filling out their grades...
What do you put in the BCPM/A column. Either BCPM or A. Or do you break down the BCPM into bio, chem, ... ?

i'm debating whether i should take the time to fill out the uc application.

you guys are filling it out just in case amcas has troubles again this year? from what people have said so far, it seems like amcas has their act together (relatively). is it really worth the time to fill out the uc app if in a couple weeks they'll get it from amcas?

wondering...

and the extra app is mandatory for UCSF, though i think it will be filled out online.
besides, no finals to study for. nothing but time on my hands...

hey guys,
For the honors/awards section, we don't have to put dates do we?
also, for the activites, are you guys re writing the exact same descriptions that you had amcas?

Are there no instructions to go with it? I'm pretty sure one of the sections said we had to refer to the instructions to answer it.
It seems weird to put everything in chronological order rather than reverse chronological order.

I would not depend on AMCAS to get your application transmitted successfully. Many of us in last year's application pool did that only to find an email from UCs requesting a separate UC application. Even if the UC application is not mandatory, I would have it filled out and ready to go just in case AMCAS lives up to its reputation as a bunch of 'knuckle-heads'. It really takes only a few minutes to do the UC application once the AMCAS application is completed. I don't think most schools would mind if you sent them a copy of the UC application along with a letter stating that you just want to make sure they receive your primary information in leiu of an AMCAS screw up. It may translate into an expeditious secondary! Who knows? I don't think it can hurt. Remember..the UCs screen before granting secondaries..so the sooner they have all of your information the better.

Good luck to all 😀

you guys probably already found it. but here's a location for the UC application instruction.

as far as the same descriptions as amcas, there's just not enough room. i just wrote down the title, dates and a short sentence about the experience.

huh 😕 i had no idea about this UC app thing. i'm applying to sf,la,sd - so i guess i need to do this huh? hah - would never even thought about it if i hadn't seen this thread. it doesn't look mandatory - it is for sf tohugh? sorry - i had no clue - what the deal with this thing?

Jot,

i'm w/ u. had no idea bout no uc app.
anyone know if its mandatory for la and sd?

definitely NOT mandatory for SD.
definitely IS mandatory for SF - available online "at the end of june"

UCI,UCD,UCLA haven't specified yet whether or not it's mandatory

So "not required" for SD means what exactly? Does that mean absolutely don't send it in, or send it in if you want to, or what? 😕

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POST SECONDARY CHRONOLOGY AND EXTRA CURRICULAR/COMMUNITY/AVOCATIONAL?

•••quote:•••Originally posted by bruinkid:
•WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POST SECONDARY CHRONOLOGY AND EXTRA CURRICULAR/COMMUNITY/AVOCATIONAL?•••••from the term avocational in box 10, i take it to mean everything that's not a paid job. so post-secondary chronology would be everything that is a paid job.

fyi: UCI's statement on the supp app:
"For entering Fall 2003, all applicants for the UCI College of Medicine must complete both the AMCAS application and the required UC Application"
from UC Irvine Health Sciences/College of Medicine: Admissions: Admissions Information: Admissions

?: did anyone notice a difference in the UCSF app? i didn't, so i'm wondering what took so long for them to post that. i thought they would have a means to submit the form online.

For the academic record portion, can we send them a copy of the printed academic record portion of AMCAS?

according to the instructions, yes you can. I sent my amcas academic record because didn't see a point in retyping my courses again

are you all putting ALL of your work experiences? it says to, but that seems a little ridiculous. do they really want to know i worked as a sales associate twice since i graduated from high school?

little crappy jobs like working at the city park or for a telemarketing company for a limited amount of time, i just left out.
