so i interviewed at Davis on December 15th and today recieved an email from terri stating that a decision has not been made and that i was being placed on hold for further consideration until all other applicants have been reviewed, at that point i may be accepted, rejected, waitlisted. ok, so does anyone have any experience with this state of purgatory, is this worse than a waitlist, better????? i am thinking about sending a letter of intent. thoughts?? statements??? questions????

I do not know how the hold thing works at UCD. However, I strongly suggest you send an update/intent letter if you are very serious about attending UCD. Remember that you can only send one letter of intent to one school. Good luck!

Well sounds like you still have a good chance of getting in, but I don't like to sugarcoat things, so I'll tell you right now that deferred (which is de facto what you are) is not quite as good as waitlist; it's like a waitlist, except there's a chance you could get kicked off (rejected) at the final decision date (at which time you could be rejected, accepted, or officially put on waitlist). Last cycle I was deferred at UCD, and was told to go home (rejected) at the final decision.

Has anyone else who has interviewed around that date been notified of a decision?

I was placed on hold last year around this time also. The hold list is not the same as a the waitlist. People on the hold list will be re-reviewed after interviews are over, around mid-May, early June. Unforutnately, it's going to be a long wait for those on hold. Those in the hold category will then either be accepted, rejected, or placed onto the waitlist. I was placed on hold, then waitlisted, and then accepted in July, so it was quite a ride for me. There were around 100 people on the waitlist last year AFTER being placed on hold. I did write two letter of intents last year after being placed on hold. It can't really hurt your chances by writing it.

I got put on hold too. 🙁 🙁 🙁

Well, argonana...it looks like we missed being placed on the hold category.

so i got my first white coat on monday from the ucd med center. it was awesome. hopefully ill get one next year as a med student.

yep. for me, there's always tomorrow. or a post-interview rejection. (sorry for the pessimism. i've had a bad week.)

anyway, lobster MD, i'm sorry to hear about the hold. did you ask terri for an update, or did the email just come on its own?

this process sucks.

You can only send one update letter to one school?

I think for intent letter, you SHOULD only send one to a single school since it is somewhat binding and usually means you will go there if you get accepted, regardless of other acceptances. Update letters, you can send in as many as you want.
