My chairman at U. Buffalo raved about Davis. He thinks that it is almost on par with UCSF and UCLA. It is easier to get into than the other two - mostly because of location. Also, their board pass rate is 100%. Looks like an excellent program.

UC Davis's biggest strong point is the program director. Very pro-resident. They have a humane night float system and get 4 weeks of vacation a year. The location, albeit, is not San Francisco but still is 2 hours from Tahoe and generally has great California weather except for the fog.

It is a very nice program.
The interview itself is laid back. No hard questions. They have great diversity of clinical sites: university hospital, VA, Kaiser, but residents do not look or say that they are overworked. PD is great. residents are very happy there. Drawbacks, just as others already mentioned: location. I asked one intern about social life ther and she said that"you need to look for it". On the other hand Davis is only a few miles away. Housing is less expensive compared with other places in CA. Studio for about $800.
Hope it helped.
