For the longest time UCR was my obvious first choice but after attending the second look for UofA im conflicted. UA has its own medical center, lots of ways to connect with faculty, new simulation lab, beautiful campus, and cheaper rent.
The only things making me choose UCR over UA was location (my family lives in socal) and cost. But after a year its also possible for me to qualify for instate tuition at UA, making the cost argument go away. So now its so hard for me to decide!! UA seems to be the better choice but having a hard time getting over the chance of staying close to family. Also i want to do my residency in CA if possible. Any input?

How important is being near family? If you can live away from them, it sounds like you would rather go to UA.

UACOM-T matches incredibly well into California residencies, not exactly at a higher rate but probably a higher tier of academic programs back in California for those who do. Tucson is driveable-ish (if you've driven to the Bay before, it's similar) but also a short flight away. UCR is great but I think if the cost difference is not insane, the fact that COM-T has a more established program, home program, nice faculty and campus/research opportunities should make it your clear choice.

Any interest in something like surgery, radiology, or derm? If so, UA might be the right move. They have great home programs in almost every specialty (not as important if you are thinking primary care, EM, anesthesia, etc).
