Not that it matters to me, but I saw posted on another website that the top pathologists in the UC city now make almost 2,000,000 a year up from 1,500,000 a couple years ago.

Who says you can't make money in academics? Also I don't follow sports but I know enough to know that Berkeley isn't a big college football powerhouse. I wonder how much USC and Notre Dame coaches get paid. 3,000,000 a year to coach a kid's game? Where do I sign-up.

1 TEDFORD, JEFF HEAD COACH Berkeley $2,756,654
2 LEBOIT, PHILIP Pathologist UCSF $1,903,819
3 MCCALMONT, TIMOTHY H Pathologist UCSF $1,846,401
4 BUSUTTIL, RONALD W Surgeon UCLA $1,507,310
5 TABSH, KHALIL Obstetrician UCLA $1,048,891
6 BRAUN, BEN HEAD COACH Berkeley $980,833

Wow, that's pretty amazing. I still think my odds are better of winning the lottery than making a lot of money in academic pathology, but I'm interested in how these guys earn so much! Stay tuned for the inevitable "Path to College football coach?" career change advice threads.

Thanks for the link!

Those docs get a cut of revenue. Their base salary is only a tiny fraction of their total. Leboit takes home $2 million, but he generates somewhere around $10 million annually in billing.

He personally generates 10 million annually in what? Account receivable? Or billed amounts? Billed amounts are meaningless as you can only get a fraction% of charges.

To sign out enough cases to generate 10 million USD in pure anatomic 88305 income is impossible for 1 man, IMPOSSIBLE.

Anyone that says otherwise simply has no clue as to the PC charges and Medicare reimbursement levels....
