the uc schools have decided to reject any and all unverified paper applications that amcas sends to them. they are simply sending them back. they think it's ridiculous and want to send a message to them. in addition, they have no way of handling the sheer volume of applications, each about 20 pages. thus, they have made their own application.

Hey, UC are a force to be reckoned with.

How do you know this and where can we find the applications?

while it sounds nice...it does mean more work. now every school on my list has officially bypassed AMCAS.

I CANNOT BELIEVE AMCAS isn't giving us a refund!! why did I give them $500 of my hardearned money? oh yeah, so I could play with printers and xerox machines all day. whatev.

Did you send them a check? If so, i guess you're screwed.

Otherwise if you used a credit card, write a letter to your credit card company disputing the charges.

Just make sure that all your schools have OFFICIALLY bypassed AMCAS for the whole year, not just bypass them temporarily.

hehe, that's the catch. no one, not even the UCs, have completely undermined AMCAS. but I wish some school would outright say "screw AMCAS, just send us your goods directly." so far, all the schools have said, "sure send us a paper copy, but don't forget to submit to AMCAS as well because they still have the final word." so legally, AMCAS is still justified in charging us all that loot, since all the med schools are still *technically* relying on them.

The schools are still rely on AMCAS to verify the applications. However, they have lost faith in AMCAS's ability to do it promptly and thus we have the "alternate processes." Unfortunately, we still have to depend on AMCAS. 😱

Go to any of the UC med websites and they should have links to the new application.
