UCD Dublin a good choice over US and Carib schools for livestock vet med?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed on the same day as you but I haven't heard back from them yet....getting nervous :(
I hope your response is better than mine:) After meeting several of you in San Francisco I knew I was sunk! You all are so smart and have great credentials! Saying a prayer for your success and an offer email tomorrow. Best of luck, you all were shining stars and will do very well:)

I'm sorry to hear that. They are quite specific about what they want which is frustrating. For example, I said I had large animal experience and they were disappointed I did not have more cattle experience specifically even though I had experience with other ruminants.

Have you thought about applying to ROSS? A good option if you have taken the GRE and I think it's slightly less competitive.
I looked at Ross but I would have to retake all of my sciences since it's been more than 10 years since I took them. My own Vet is a Ross grad and she is awesome! The cost of the island schools is pretty hard to swallow and I don't think they take US student loans. I had my heart set on UCD, I love the way the modules are set up and the opportunity to do farm calls and maybe zoo visits is head and shoulders above all others. It is much farther from home for me to go to Ireland but my husband and family support me fully and we were working on all the transitions and needed adjustments for me to go. I admit I have been very upset and weepy all day but I pulled up my big girl pants and am regrouping. I have lived through the loss of my daughter and busted my butt to get her to a double lung transplant, I worked full time during the day while a nurse cared for her here at home then took over at night. I went to work most days with 45 minutes to 2 hours of sleep off and on during the night and I did things like troubleshoot her vent, make adjustments on it as needed, replace her g-tube monthly, change out her trach cannulas, and never let her see me lose my cool or show my fear. I am a tough old bat and thrive on challenges, I am reapplying again this next cycle and am planning on adding more experiences along with extra classes. Going to be a juggling act while working full time but I am committed to this and focused, worried my age may be a factor but my brain and body still fire on all cylinders. My LA experience is light but I will just spend more time on my sister-in-law's beef farm and keep up my TNR work. Considering a raptor course with hands on as well. I hope you get offered the programs you want, you deserve it.

Any word yet? Hoping you got in!
I was waitlisted on Friday, but the woman who responded to me didn't really say why and didn't list my place on the waitlist. I've been accepted to other schools, and have a competitive GPA of 3.2 and 4000+ hours of work with both large and small animal but I'm not sure why I wasn't accepted! It's okay I'll probably go somewhere else I'm just super confused!

I am a little far behind in the game as I did not apply to UCD through VMCAS, but rather just through their online website. I am an international applicant. I am just curious about how long it took each of you to hear back from them? For those of you that were offered spots without interviews how long did that take to hear back? And for those who were asked to interview- how long after your interview did you hear if you got accepted or not? Thank you for any responses in advance.

When you say international applicant where are you applying from? I applied as an Irish applicant to the grad program with the application form on their website. I didn't hear back until some time in June that I had an interview, which was to be the following week then it took just under a week after the interview to tell me I was accepted. They interviewed all the EU/Irish applicants who were accepted.

Hey, sorry to hear that =( I think my own situation can maybe shed some light on yours. I had a 3.4 GPA and they asked me to send my new GPA after I had taken a 5th year to them. I told them it was a 3.7 after my 5th year, and only then did they accept me. So I think that while 3.2 is their cutoff, they didn't seem THAT happy with my 3.4.

I'm glad you have other options though, hopefully they're less expensive than UCD =)

Hey, I'm canadian and I applied directly to UCD (not through VMCAS) in October. I heard I got an interview in December for January 26th. I found out I got in 1.5 weeks later. Good luck =)

I am applying from the United States.

Thanks you for the details! I am crossing my fingers for an interview. Do you mind sharing your stats? Just curious to see what the stats look like of some students they have already accepted. Thank you!

I am USA and found out a week and a half after my interview.

Overall GPA: 3.4
Last 2 years: 3.74
Last year: 4.09 (on a 4.3 scale)

4000+ hours animal/vet experience

I also have a Master's + 2 publications which I think they liked.

Hi! I'm so happy you got in! Thank you for sharing your experience :) I'm not super worried about the waitlist at all, and I have other cheaper options so I'll be going to vet school, I'm just not sure where at!

I want to attend SGU and even though I know its a great school, there is still a stigma attached to it. I have been accepted to the University of Illinois as well. Any advice?

I wouldn't say that the stigma is as prevalent as it used to be. The lead Critical Care Specialist at the ER Hospital in our town got her degree from SGU. I also know of quite a few students who attend SGU that chose it over US Schools for the experience and the education. I would say ultimately you need to make the decision that is right for you personally.

How did you decide to post this question in this particular thread?

And just go wherever is cheaper.
