That's incredibly strange. Free speech my a$$...that guy's just using it as a cheap publicity stunt. And it's not even a creative publicity stunt.

This so funny. What cracks me up is that considering Mr. O'Reilly's recent sexual controversy, he's actually questioning the moral ethics of these college students.

I think deep down inside he gets a kick out of it.

Hmm...Maybe that's because some stupid idiot made a false accusation regarding Bill O'Reilly? Ever think of that? A false accusation bears no weight upon one's morality...primarily because it is just that - false.

Paraphrasing:
O'Reilly: Are you an exhibitionist?
York: Well, more-or less...
O'Reilly: [confused mooose look]

Again,
O'Reilly: Do you want to go to the San Fernando Valley to make porn?
York: I'd consider it.
O'Reilly: [confused moose look]

I'd love to see the video.

its only a false accusation in your eyes b.c the trial didnt go through; his ass settled; if O.J settled youd be all over him about that, the same thing with mike jackson. Bill O'reilly did harass this woman and his settlement is essentially a verification of that. He is an absolute hack who has little credibility in the eyes of informed citizens

the lady has his wierd phone sex session on tape, there are extensive transcripts of it and the legal proceedings online. while this doesnt mean its true and orielly is wrong and did it, it certainly doesnt make him innocent, and in my opinion calls his morality into question in a serious way...

as for the koalla and srtv, who cares. it wasnt broadcast in kindergartens, and the message of the tv station is if students are unhappy or offended about the program, it will be removed. i imagine this will occur.

i have to say, the idea of someone from my alma mater appearing on "the factor" intimating a future career in the porn industry has made my day

yeah... i don't know if i'd be so quick to label this guy as "not nerdy". maybe i'm biased because i went to ucsd.

the koala, the newspaper he runs, is hardly infamous outside of the ucsd campus. have any of you heard about it who didn't go to ucsd (doubt it)? it's pretty much just a student paper that puts as much lewd material as possible into its articles, and they usually don't even end up being funny. if you ask me, it's run by people who think they're cool because they're printing something "bad".

anyhow... i'm a very liberal person myself, but this is going a little far. it's a public university, and even a student-run channel uses public funds. i mean where do you draw the line? do you allow racism on the channel? i wouldn't want my tax dollars paying for that.

What I don't understand is why go to UCSD and get a degree if you want to get into porn?? His parents must be so proud...

Which is why Welch's stance to the student body is, "If you don't like it, come to our meetings or email us and tell us you don't like it. It's student-run so the students will dictate what programming they want to watch." That's the beauty of having a voice. If it really bothers you, you can say something about it. SRTV isn't supposed to FCC itself nor should it discriminate against any student (or student group) on campus. Just as the views of their writers in no way reflect upon the views of their newspaper and its owners whatsoever, the views of the student orgs that ask for airtime don't reflect the views of SRTV itself.

The real issue underlying the "I don't want my tax dollars being any part of this" stance is how much you don't trust the student body to voice its concerns.

Anybody who's read The Koala knows that these guys do things and print things just because they can. It's not for coolness or anything like that. It's merely because they want to (and a little for shock value). I wouldn't take anything a Koala member says seriously. And it's not like this is the first time they've raised a ruckus on campus. Another student org already tried (unsuccessfully) to get them thrown off campus last year.

Good point about who SRTV services. It's available on-campus where the entering age is 17/18. [It's also viewable online, but how many of you knew that before this entire thing came up?] The objectionable stuff (whatever little there may be; SRTV programming isn't exciting and I doubt it has a large viewership unless they're friends of whoever has a show on) is shown between 10pm - 6am. Do we really think college students don't know what porn is? Or sex?

What a non-issue.

I go to UCSD and the general student body could not care less about this story. Actually, I think a lot of us find it a little refreshing since our campus is very sterile and apathetic. Usually, SRTV runs and re-runs boring student-made shows or a tape of laundry spinning in a dryer. If anything, this has just made SRTV a topic of conversation. I don't understand why this program was so offensive for several reasons. First, it's only broadcast on campus through closed-circuit TV. Second, it's not as if York hijacked the equipment to broadcast this material. As I understand it, his program was filed with the proper paperwork prior to the show being aired (there were no objections then). People might not like it, but there is nothing that should or can be done.
