I found out that I am on the ucsf alternate list today. The letter I got did not give a rank. What should I do to increase my chance?
 
dude~ I got the same thing today, I also want to know how we are gonna know the rank
by the way, do we have to send back anything? coz I didn't get the mail, my parents got it, and they dont' know if i need to send back anything, so it would help me alot if u can tell me, thanks

YOu have to return some gren card by the 26th! Go get your packet! I was hoping it would let us know our rank too.

are you guys all excited? do u guys know usually how many people on the alternate list get in? oh, and my parents said i need to submit some transcript or something, what's that all about? do i just send in the most current transcript?

send green card and final official transcript. From some old posts from last year, some one said # 57 on the waitlist got in. I guess our chance is pretty good. This info does not help much since we don't really know our ranking.

Does anyone know if holding a spot at another California School would significantly lower ( or completely eliminate) my chance of getting off the alternate list and getting accepted?
 
ccss, I don't think that is going to affect your chance. I think you need to be registered at another school

Good luck finding out the rank# I think most of the staff is out of town for something. Try Monday I heard last year they went down to #44 on the list. Maybe people on the this forum could start dropping their spots at UCSF! HUh!😀
 
They went past #50 last year for the waitlist. Know that your number will gradually move up during the year if you stay on the waitlist. They will periodically send you postcards asking if you want to remain on the waitlist. If you're REGISTERED at another california school you will be taken off the list. Just because you placed your deposit down at a school does not mean that you're registered.
 
I spoke to one of the people in the admission office. He told me that this year they did not rank people ( no specific number), however, he did told me that I would get in according to last year.
 
ccss, u mean they said u will get in or all people in the list will probably get in? do u know how many people they offer this alternate status this year? and if they are not giving us a rank, how are they going to decide who should get in and who should not?

Hello everyone on the alternate list!!

I am an out of state applicant and I wanted to ask if any of you guys is from out of state as well. I hope being out of state does not put me at the end of the alternate list.

Do they need all the transcripts or just the ones from the last semester?

Sorry folks we are ranked. We are just not being told the rank. I physically saw the list. Of course when the admin officer said that you were in a good spot I am sure he said that with no guarantee. Good luck to all of us!!!!

I would send them all the transcripts. JUst send it all. Things tend to get misplaced all the time at schools.
 
That is what I thought.
The admissions officer I had was contradicting what he told me. First, he told me there is no ranking. Then I ask him what should I do to increase my chance. He told that they keep a list and whatever I do is not going to bump other people off or move my rank up.
I sounds weird but it is all good. The whole ranking policy is logical and reasonable. I can't think of any other way to admit students. Let us just wish the spots go to the best and most qualified applicants.
Maybe we should start a Waitlist Supporting Group.

Waitlist supporting group sounds excellent. You guys have all of my support.

Last year at my lab there was a guy who rank # 10 got in 2 wks before school starts. I heard they went down to #40-50. So, just hope and pray. Make sure to find out where you are on the list, and stand near the phone from now until Aug. 😱 😱

There is no more chance that you can increase your rank now. After your interview, you are given score. And your DAT, GPA, extra activities etc.... are also converted to some kind of scores. Then those are added up.

If you guys get accepted late, e-mail me immediately so I'll can help get you guys settle in.

New student orientation : Aug 27-28. Then PreFall classes start Sep 3.

I saw the list. I did not read it though. He was counting down to my name and I was probably was on the second page. But yeah I heard the same "you are in a good spot, but with no guarantee." I guess there are a lot of us. Any of you have moving problems? For me, I am really just worrying about it until it falls on my lap. BUt I am in a bind. I can't afford to be moving to SF the week before school. That would be very difficult. I gotta make sure my wife (my sugar momma) has a job to support my family! HAHA! When are your deadlines to receive word from UCSF? IF any? MOst of you probably are able to move in a snap of a finger. BUt yeah be patient and it will come. I spoke with a few dentists I know and they say that it is worth the trouble to move even a week after class starts.

YOu can't apply for housing yet(need a copy of admission letter)

Just withdrew from their offer.....consider everyone bumped up one spot! Hope this helps. Good luck you guys!

sorry it took me so long to reply. I actaully went to the office in person. I guess i am on the second page of the alternate list as well. The person did say that it might take a few months before I hear anything from them. I guess I will probably end up in UCLA in September.

I am very happy to be accepted by UCLA. I have been living in the Bay Area for a few years, and I can't wait to see what it's gonna be like in LA. In fact, UCLA impressed me as much as UCSF did if not more. ( You guys consitently rocks the national board, nice campus, great professors and students...etc) Still, I just felt a little bit disappointed that I did not get into UCSF.
 
UCLA is a great school. Congrats on your acceptance. It was tough for me to choose uop over ucla. But my interest was in getting alot of clinical experience b/c I want to be a GP so I chose uop. I'm sure you'll have a great time at ucla. Good luck.
 
Hi all
I think they have some kind of ranking system they'll tell us about - if you call them, ask if you are a high, middle or low rank on the alternate list. I guess a high rank means you would have a pretty good chance of getting in - again, they'll mention there is NO guarantee.

Hey thinking about it, I don't think They physically went all the way down to #40-50?? I bet most of the people on the wait list dropped too. I do not think half the primary accepted class droped their spot. UCSF? No way. It was probably a mix of waitlisted people and Accepted applicants. I am leaning more on the waitlisted people. People just keep getting bumped up. By March 26, there should be a more accurate count of how many people are on the waitlist. Good Luck waiting for the Golden Gate.
 
I think it works like this: someone on the waitlist actually gets accepted to another school and chose not to move at the last minute. So, the next person gets to move up. That's how they go down to number 40-50.

Good luck guys. Just have your books, papers ready. And most important, on the FAFSA form, don't forget to fill out the school name, then you have things ready at the last minute.

I am counting days already. I have been checking mailbox and running to the phones religiously these days. We probably have 5 more months of waiting to go. Probable waitlist number #1( potential recipient of agutier's spot) or anyone who get into UCSF in next few days should let us know. Any sign of the list moving will make my day.

We need more people like agutier3:clap: :clap: :clap:

I don't think you should run to the phone and check your mailbox. Just take time and relax, have fun, enjoy your time....

I believe that until May, we will know 90% who goes where. Change of heart, and plans most of the time happen at last minute. And god knows why...🙄 🙄

And last year, the number 10 was called 2 weeks before school started. So, just relax....

I don't think I'm helping much here. But that's all I can tell you for now....

Well I've got to say that after reading the posts on this thread for some time, I am truly amazed.

It is a great testament to the quality of the dental program at UCSF, that applicants would wait for so long (and even after making deposits to other schools), to get a shot at matriculating to their dental program.

The staff and faculty of UCSF School of Dentistry are truly lucky to have such enthusiastic and dedicated applicants. In my opinion, that's what every school should have!

I wish all of those on "the list" the best. However, no matter where you ultimately go, rest assured we'll all make it to the same goal in the end. Relax and enjoy the experience!

Remember to keep us posted of any status changes....
 
I got on the waitlist too... but who cares i ain't gonna go!!

This thread is old but has the most info regarding UCSF alternate list. If anyone has any additional info, please add. Did any of you guys get accepted? I was told that the list barely moved.

I too received an alternate status notification today. I have no idea what this means in terms of my chances of being accepted into the class. I guess it is just another way of saying wait longer. Oh well, a couple more months of SDN and infosource wont kill me. Best of luck to all of you.
 
I recieved an alternate notice on Saturday. On Monday I actually got a call from UCSF asking if I was still interested. They said they can't give out rank numbers but that I should be hearing from them soon about a possible acceptance!!! 😍
 
I also received the letter for alternate list on saturday. If anybody gets any further news as wheter you got accepted off the alternate list please post. Best of luck to all. I reall wish they would let us know about our positions
 
I really doubt if we have any chance this year.

Dental school are getting competitive.

Who are going to give up school like UCSF or UCLA ... blah blah....

the reason they called #50 last year is that student above that list already deposited to other school.

But how many guys received multiple offer this year.

I really doubt.

I got a waitlist letter too, but did anyone get a rejection letter or did they just put everyone on the waitlist? They said they would send those out at the same time. Anyone care to repy about any rejections?

I agree. ALso recieved the alternate letter, but so did 6 of my friends. I havne't heard of anyone rejected as of yet??? Looks like an extremely long list, I am definitely not going to count on it at all.

I think some of students gave up spot and they re-selected again week ago but I am still waiting list. 😴

I feel like I am doing super lotto. :meanie:

Thank God that I can enjoy this because I already deposited to other school.
