Hey everyone! For those of you who interviewed at UCSF, what hotel did you stay in? Did you fly into the SFO or Oakland airport? Which hotel and airport was the most convenient?

I read on their website that both interviews are closed file and most likely to be by faculty members rather than a faculty/student combo. I'm kind of nervous about the closed file deal because I'm not sure how much details we're supposed to go into when they ask "Tell me about yourself." Did both interviews have pretty much the same questions? Thanks a lot for the info!! 🙂

I was just there yesterday. I had one faculty interviewer and one student. They were both about an hour and 15 min long. It was mainly cuz my 2 interviews were about 1.5 hrs apart, and we were just sitting and talking. they're really relaxed interviews and the closed file format wasn't bad at all. the student started off with exactly "tell me about yourself" and he was sooo nice and easy to talk to. I ended up saying almost the exact same thing at both interviews since they were basically the same questions. With the faculty, I went over a timeline of my whole life, where I went to high school and the activities i participated in (still in high school), when I realized I wanted to get into medicine, then why I chose my undergrad, and what I did through college, activities/research/academics...then to med schools, why i applied to ucsf, why i want to go there, what other schools I applied to. It was really long but fun! and I felt that the student interviewer gave me a better idea of the university than the students I had talked to earlier. Everyone is extremely friendly!!

I flew in to SFO and stayed at Carl Hotel (PM me for more details), which is this little hotel, I think family owned, but all I needed was one bed for one night (single, twin)and my bill was about 78$, so pretty cheap for SF. muni passes by every 2 minutes which drove me NUTS all night long cuz the whole room would shake! but anyway, I walked the next morning to the interview (although you can take the MUNI, but i didn't know that until after I walked). if you do stay there, and you do decide to walk (it's about 0.4 miles I think), PM me cuz there's oen street that is absolutely ridiculous to walk on, it's this total uphill climb, and I later found out you could take an elevator to the upper street hehe...long story

Anyway, then I just walked back to the hotel and took a shuttle back to SFO. My interviewer told me that it's really easy to get to SFO from the school too if you need to. All you do is take MUNI to some stop where you switch over to BART right to the airport, but I'm not the right person to ask about that. (and admissions office is SO friendly and you can keep your luggage in their office until ~5 pm if u need to!)

GOOD LUCK!
