If you decide on staying at one of these places for your first year...and decide that you like one of the other campuses better, would it be possible to change campuses? Also, if ur in rockford or peoria...will you have the same exciting rotation opportunities as the students in Chicago?

    Thanks

i don't know for sure, but i doubt that you can change campuses because the number of students at each campus is tightly regulated. it's the same reason why it's very difficult to transfer to other medical schools, which is essentially what you're asking.

the rotations that are required are the same at all campuses, but as i understand it you can't do your rotations in chicago if you're a peoria or rockford student unless you do this as an away rotation (which is kind of what it is, even though you're technically at the same school) during your fourth year. basically, once you're in peoria or rockford, that's where you stay.

I was told at my interview by an M2 that you can only switch campuses for 'hardship' reasons -or- if you get a student from another campus to switch with you. A one for one trade.

The curriculums at each campus are very different so you can see switching would be made hard to do.

i would imagine they tell you this so that everyone doesnt just want to switch to chicago during 3rd year. a one-for-one trade seems more logical to me, but the m2 i know there sure made it seem like it was a trivial thing to do. i tend to agree with you guys that its not easy, but then again i dont think its impossible either.

yeah, as i understood it, it was a one-for-one thing, kind of the same way as transferring med schools is in general--extremely difficult to do because it hinges on there being someone else who wants to make the exact opposite switch. so no, not impossible, but very difficult to pull off. i'm guessing that there are probably more peoria/rockford people who want to make the switch to chicago than those chicago students who want to go to either peoria or rockford.

I am a M1 at the University of Illinois at Urbana and I am assigned to Rockford for my 2-4 years. They told us pretty clearly that it was impossible to transfer to Chicago till at least your third year. And even in your third year you would have to have an extremely valid reason for doing this. However in your fourth year you can do away rotations anywhere you want. Also I forgot to add that if you want to switch between peoria and rocford, all you have to do is find another student to switch with you. The whole point is that once you have been assigned to the Urbana-Peoria-Rockford track, your pretty much stuck to it.
