it's similar to chicago in terms of curriculum, but you have to take microbiology during the first year as well. also, you get your tests back in a timely matter and can review them to see what you missed...such a didactic process is lacking at the chicago campus where your exams are whisked away to some black hole never to be seen again.

also, the class size in tremendously smaller at urbana, and you have a college town all around you. however, after the first year, you have to pack up and move to rockford or peoria. then your class size gets even smaller.

don't know about note-taking service...overall, it wasn't that helpful here in chicago except for two classes during the first two years. nothing can substitute for your reading and taking notes.

how soon do they tell you what campus you get? do you have to send them your transcripts/immunization stuff before they do that or do they do it right away after you accept their offer? anyone know?

btw, i've heard champaign is good in terms of the cirriculum, etc. people at champaign/peoria/rockford outscore chicago people on USMLE (so i've heard).

as a whole, the champaign/rockford/peoria kids probably do better than chicago, but if you put in your effort and do your time, you'll do well on boards no matter where you're at.

although i have to admit that there are a few people i know in my class that i wouldn't trust taking care of me in the hospital...but that's probably true at any med school!

Now when you say "your reading", is a lot of reading required from heavy textbooks or can you purchase lecture supplements or lecture notes written by the professor? I went to u of i for undergrad and a lot of the profss ( i think all actually) really didnt requre much or any reading at all from the text books... we would just purchase the lecture notes from the bookstore.... i found that reading from lecture notes was a 100 times better than a thick heavy, over-detailed text.... do most classes work with notes?

thanks!!!
