Hi Everyone! I got accepted into both UIC (Rockford Campus) and Purdue. I'm currently trying to figure which school I should go to. I would really appreciate any input and would love to hear what everyone thinks.
UIC Rockford is a new campus they just opened to 50 students this year. It will cost me approximately $29-30K per year to attend there. This includes tuition and room and board. Food expenses are not included. This school is also a 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minute drive from home. From what I've heard, half of my classes will be online because they will be recorded from the Chicago campus and streamed to the Rockford campus. All course requirements will be the same on both UIC campuses. I couldn't find out a lot about this school because it's still new so they're working out the kinks. For instance, the yearly job fair will be held on the chicago campus, but there will be a shuttle bus that will take the Rockford students to the Chicago campus for one day.
Purdue has a lovely campus. I am very impressed by their nano technology program. It might be something I would consider doing research in if I attended this school. This school will cost me approximately $46-52K per year. It is a 2 hour drive from my home. I'm pretty sure a lot of you are gawking at the out of state tuition. The reason why I'm still considering Purdue is because I felt like like faculty there really cared about their students. They really encourage students to explore all areas of pharmacy and not just retail. They offer a lot of interesting electives such as golf, research, and various other disciplines. Yes, golf is one of them. One of the Purdue student ambassadors told me this. I feel like I need a school that has a supportive faculty that will both challenge me and encourage my growth. This is important because I will be 2 hours away from my family and will be the first time I leave the nest. So one of my question is, is this extra 15-20K per year worth it for me to attend this school?
I would really appreciate any advice on how I should go about deciding which pharmacy school to go to. I look forward to your response!
