    Hey people,

I am a UK medical student and have wandered this for quite some time now.

Is it possible to move to Australia to start work once you have graduate from a UK medical school ?

Would it be possible to apply for specialist training there (e.g. in a surgical specialty) ?

When would be the earliest opportunity to make the move ? Straight after graduation, after F1, F2 ?

Would you have to sit any exams as a UK grad and if so, do these exams require much preparation ?

Thanks for the info, really appreciated ! :)

You would most likely have to complete your residency training in the UK and then move to Australia afterward. Australian PGY training works on a priority system that gives precedence to Australian/NZ citizens and then to internationals who have attended school in Australia. Even amongst those demographics there is a shortage of positions and some people will likely not be offered training positions. Coming from the UK your priority would be even below those listed above, and your chances of securing an internship in Australia would be vritually zero. If you are already a consultant, the chances of successfully coming to Australia would be more realistic. The process is much different and you are not limited by the training system bottleneck.

So would that also be the case if you are looking to move to New Zealand as well ?

Not sure about NZ, I am only familiar with the Australian system.
